Today we celebrated the first communion of Emily Cruz! We give thanks to God for another member of our parish getting to receive the Eucharist. It was also a bittersweet day, as we bid farewell to our pastor of three years, Father Gregory Crane. He said that he will see us in the Eucharist. We pray for him and will always be united with him in Christ. We also pray for our incoming pastor, Father Roger Synek! (Also, note the scaffolding on the back wall of the sanctuary, an exciting sign of our parish's improvement project in full swing!)

Another great event from the past few months was the baptism of Hallie Jacobs on Sunday, March 8, 2026. We've enjoyed several sacraments of initiation in the past two months in our parish. These always bring a great joy to the whole community!!

As we prepare for a big transition in our parishes this weekend with Father Gregory Crane leaving and our new pastor, Father Roger Synek, arriving, we realize that there are a few great events that never made it onto Facebook, so we will post them over the next few days...

On Sunday, February 22, 2026, Jared Kyvik participated in the Rite of Election at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Bismarck, ND. Bishop Kagan led the rite. We give great thanks to God for Jared's entrance into full communion with the Catholic Church several weeks later at the Easter Vigil on Saturday, April 4, 2026. (Jared is the third from the right on the bottom row.)

In addition to the last Mass in Portal last Sunday, we also got to celebrate with four of our seniors as they graduated from Divide County High School on the same day. Congratulations to Brady Brown, Gracie Rowse, Easton Tibbs and Megan Wolter on their graduation. It’s a huge milestone and we’re all so proud of you. May Jesus send his Holy Spirit upon you as you embark upon the next stage of life. May he make your vocation clear to you, and give you the courage to follow it!

Yesterday we celebrated the last Mass at St. John the Baptist in Portal, one of the three parishes in our cluster. It was a bittersweet day. While it is sad that we will no longer have regular Masses there, we give thanks to God for over a century of sacraments celebrated at that parish, and we know that God will be with our few parishioners as they begin to attend Mass regularly at any one of a number of nearby parishes. We were honored by the presence of Monsignor Gene Lindemann, representing Bishop David Kagan, as well as other priests (Father Dan Berg, pastor of Kenmare and Bowbells, and Father Ben Wanner, Associate at St. Joseph's in Williston), parishioners past and present, friends, family and neighbors. St. John the Baptist, pray for us!

It is with sadness that yesterday we learned the news that one of our long-time parishioners, Roman Fettig, died. Roman lived a life of service to his community, country, and in a special way, to the Church. He helped in countless ways throughout the years to pass on the faith. He's particularly remembered for helping to train altar servers for many years, a practice for which he had a particular passion. We pray for the repose of his soul, that he be received into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father. We also pray for comfort for his grieving family.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

NOTICE: This week we are having some work done on the lighting in the sanctuary at St. Patrick's. The church will still be open 8am-8pm each day, as usual, and anyone is welcome to come pray, but the Blessed Sacrament has been removed from the tabernacle, many of the appointments in the sanctuary have been moved, and there will likely be workers and noise in the nave and sanctuary. Masses and Adoration will still occur at the regularly scheduled times (Mass on Wednesday at 5:30pm and Friday at 7:15am, and Adoration on Thursday from 4:00pm - 8:00pm) in a makeshift "sanctuary" in the basement of the Church.

Yesterday we had the great privilege of having Bishop David Kagan come to Crosby and celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for four of our young people: Allison Nelson, Carter Nelson, Kailey Verlinde and Charles Verlinde. it was a joy-filled day! We pray for these four, that as they receive the special grace that by which Baptism is brought to its fulness and they are strengthened for the mission of living the Gospel, they respond to God's will for their lives!

Though a week has gone by, we want to celebrate the fact that last Sunday, April 12, two of our parishioners, Lex Rindel and Chasen Verlinde, received their first communion. We give thanks to God for the gift of the Eucharist, and the for the gift of these two boys now being able to commune with God by receiving him in his Body and Blood!
