**Rev. Sandra S.K. Lee promoted to Associate Superintendent**

The East Coast Conference is pleased to announce the promotion of Rev. Sandra S.K. Lee to Associate Superintendent. Rev. Lee’s new role brings together her passion for both missiology and education-as-empowerment. Her lens for ministry development will focus on integral mission (or what C. René Padilla calls misión integral). Rev. Lee aims to foster the imagination of God’s people to creatively and holistically engage and love our neighbors well; to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God; and to abide in and share Christ, his love, and his Word. She intends to build strategic partnerships and collaborative networks and to offer contextual resources and initiatives that cultivate, equip, and empower ministries.

This position will work closely with newly appointed Director of Conference Operations, Karita Reid; as well as with Executive Associate Superintendent Rev. Dr. Barbara Ettinger; and Superintendent Rev. Howard Burgoyne. “I am so pleased to announce Rev. Lee’s promotion,” says Howard Burgoyne. “Sandi's passions for missiology and the life of God's people in our congregations will meld together in this new initiative. Join us in praying for renewal and revival among God's people as we pursue God's passion and priorities for the world, the church, and the whole of creation.”

Reflecting on her new role, Rev. Lee says, “I am humbled and deeply honored to serve the pastors, ministry leaders, and ministries of the East Coast Conference in this new capacity. We will partner with God in experiencing and living more authentically and holistically into His Kingdom -- his shalom – together, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Dr. Ettinger observes, “I am completely delighted to partner with Sandi in new ways as she takes on this role. Everyone who knows her has benefitted from her deep love for both churched and unchurched people; and especially for the marginalized. Her commitment to ministering to the whole person; and her courageous intercultural engagement will continue to lead all of us into greater wholeness and effectiveness.”

Rev. Lee comes to her new role with over 25 years of local, regional, and global ministry experience. Most recently, Sandi served the East Coast Conference as Administrative Manager for the last 9 years. In that role, she supported and resourced pastors, churches, ministries, and networks, and shepherded pastors through vocational discernment, care and credentialing. Previously, Sandi served as the Executive Assistant to the Chair of the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization, as well as the Lausanne Theology Working Group; Managing Editor of the Atlas of Global Christianity; and as Research Associate at the Center for the Study of Global Christianity, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. She has also served locally in Youth Ministry, Adult Christian Education, Worship, Children’s Ministry, and as Special Needs Aide in churches in New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. Sandi is Ordained to Word and Sacrament in the Evangelical Covenant Church, received her M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and her M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University. Sandi and her husband James have the privilege of parenting two incredible teenage sons and currently reside in CT.

You may congratulate Rev. Lee on her promotion via email at [email protected].

After all it is OUR camp! For individuals and churches, an update from your Conference Staff on Pilgrim Pines

Technically the East Coast Conference owns Pilgrim Pines Camp and Conference Center. However, in actual fact, the Pines belongs to everyone who has ever experienced spiritual and physical refreshment within the camp’s borders.

BRIEF *POSITIVE* UPDATE FROM Pilgrim Pines Conference Center

Friends,
Just a brief update for now...
First of all, thank you to those who have reached out, offered to help, donated and are praying for camp. Your support and encouragement has helped to lighten our load and we are grateful.
A brief update for now....

Camping Area - Of our three campuses, the camping area sustained the most widespread damage in Sunday’s storm. The cleanup and rebuild will take quite an extensive amount of time and resources.

Mayflower - Power, internet and phone lines have been restored to our main office and lodge building. Thank you for your patience as our main communication systems have been down all week.
There remains a fair amount of damage in and around our buildings and grounds but please know that initial clean up and repair work has already begun as there is much to do. This will not be an overnight fix.

Camp Squanto - Our youth camp sustained the least amount of damage and remains relatively intact. This is great news! We are hopeful for the days ahead. Please stay tuned.

Looking forward, there is much to be done in the months ahead to restore and improve our beloved camp and your help will be needed as this amazing place belongs to all of us. Stay tuned for future opportunities.

More information will be coming your way soon in regards to reservations, our camping area, Camp Squanto, the family camp schedule and more.

Again, thank you for walking with us during this challenging situation. We know better days are ahead.

On behalf of our amazing full-time, part-time and summer staff,
Jim Condap

Dear East Coast Conference Family,
Hundreds of campers at Pilgrim Pines Camp and Conference Center--ranging in age from babies to the elderly endured a terrifying 30 hours of nature's violence that left the Camp and many parts of the surrounding lake communities devastated. Miraculously, no one at the Pines suffered any lasting injuries. Camp staff worked tirelessly to rescue, feed, house, and reassure children and family camp campers. At one point, camp staff even had to carry a few elderly campground campers to safety on their backs. Countless acts of kindness between campers and strangers and remarkable leadership and dedication on the part of the Pines staff provided the only bright spots in a terribly dark storm.

The rains began Sunday around 2:00 p.m. and the last family was safely evacuated Monday at 4:30 p.m. Only after that last family left camp did Camp Director Jim Condap return to his own home for desperately needed sleep. It wasn't until Tuesday morning that the arduous and heartbreaking tasks of assessment, triage, and evaluation could begin.

The clean up effort and recovery ahead is massive. Surprisingly, some areas of camp escaped relatively unscathed while other areas were profoundly impacted. Nothing short of professional intervention with heavy equipment can address those greater needs. For those areas hit the hardest, the recovery will be long, careful, complicated, and slow. Volunteer work crews cannot match the magnitude of the tasks in the hardest hit areas.

The Conference Executive Board, the Pilgrim Pines Board, and Executive Director Jim Condap and his remarkable staff urgently and seriously need your committed prayers and your sacrificial generosity. We are working on a suggested plan for making a significant difference financially in the process of the Pines recovery. That plan will be forthcoming and will involve an urgent invitation to all our churches. In the meantime, individual donations are greatly needed and so appreciated. You can donate here: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/MRLA8T7JN7TSCG2K8HWY/

On behalf of your Conference staff team, the Pines staff and Pines Board, and the Conference Board, I plead for your prayers, your generosity, and your patience.

Thanks in advance,
Rev. Barbara Ann Vincent Ettinger

-Executive Associate Superintendent

This week Pilgrim Pines Conference Center suffered devastating losses to buildings and property during a massive rainfall event that impacted the region. Unclear when they will be able to reopen as they assess the damage and formulate a plan.
It is truly miraculous no one was hurt, and we are hearing countless reports of the incredible leadership by the camp staff that saw hundreds of stranded campers and families safely through the crisis.
Their financial needs in the aftermath are massive. If you’d like to help the link to donate is below. And please do keep director Jim Condap, the staff, board members, and ECC conference leaders in your prayers.
