Camp Bird for Lutherans

Camp Bird for Lutherans "Camp Bird gives you memories that last a life time and builds faith that lasts an eternity."

1952 Camp Bird focuses on working together to succeed.

Each week at Camp Bird focuses on a specific Christ-centered theme. The youth are able to delve into God’s Word through morning devotion, morning Bible study, singing, and with campfire devotions. Each cabin consists of up to nine campers and one counselor. We encourage the cabins to become a team and work together to God’s glory in all that they do.Whether it’s cleaning the cabin, rowing a rowboa

t, untying a human knot, or even becoming the “Camp Champs,” they all do it together! The experience of a summer camp is something that every kid should have. It gives them a chance to log off the computer, put down their cell phones, and be with friends in a new and exciting environment. There are so many things to do at Camp Bird including swimming, canoeing, row boating, archery, handicrafts, kickball, volleyball, and basketball, among other things. Camp Bird is one week of the summer that is guaranteed to be remembered!

The Camp Bird family is mourning the loss of another true pioneer. Ione Brick has passed away at the age of 102 to rest in the arms of her Savior.

Alongside her husband, Pastor Delmar Brick (one of our camp’s founders), Ione was there in 1953 when it all began. But she didn't just help start the camp; she gave us our voice.

Ione once shared: "I thought our camp needed a song. So one night during that first week of camp, I went up in the office and wrote one!" Since that night in 1953, over 27,000 campers have raised their voices to "For the sunshine in the sky..." That song remains a staple of the Camp Bird experience today. Every time we sing it, we remember the love, time, and effort the Bricks poured into this ministry.

Please join us in praying for the Brick family. We find great comfort knowing Ione is with her Lord.

The picture is from Ione's 100th birthday celebration. Camp Bird staff members celebrated by singing the Camp Bird song with Ione.

Howdy! If you saw or got tagged in a post about an “alumni t-shirt,” don’t click on anything! Not sure what that was but it wasn’t us! 😫

In Thankful Memory of Prof. James P. Tiefel

It is with heavy hearts, yet firm hope in the Resurrection, that we share the news of the passing of a true Camp Bird legend, Prof. Jim Tiefel.

Jim’s history with Camp Bird for Lutherans spanned many years and included many roles!. His love for Camp began as a camper and counselor, but his devotion didn't stop there. Over the decades, he returned to serve as a kitchen helper, a director, and—perhaps most memorably—our energetic song leader. Whether he was in the classroom at the Seminary or leading the campfire songs at the lakefront at Camp, Jim’s life was dedicated to the praise of his Savior.

We are deeply grateful for the countless hours he volunteered to make Camp Bird a place where faith and fellowship grew together.

"I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live." — Psalm 104:33

Please keep the Tiefel family in your prayers. You can read his full obituary and find service details here:
