On this Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who dedicated their lives in service to our country.

The Father Dickson Cemetery Foundation is reminded that remembrance is more than reflection, it is a responsibility. Did you know the cemetery is the final resting place of individuals who served our country from the Civil War to the 1970’s? We not only honor their legacies and the memories of all who sacrificed for freedom, but also recognize the generations whose stories continue to shape our community and nation. This Memorial Day, may we carry forward their courage, service, and enduring spirit.

Take a moment today or any day to visit, reflect, and be inspired by the history and cultural significance of Father Dickson Cemetery.

FYI Only! Madam C.J. Walker

Before she was Madam C. J. Walker, she was Sarah Breedlove, a struggling laundry worker living in Mill Creek.

Her fortunes changed when she began working for Annie Malone – one of the country’s first Black female millionaires – as a Poro beauty product agent in 1903.

Two years later, she moved to Denver and developed her own business based on a formula for hair-and-scalp treatment for Black women that she said came to her in a dream; although some claimed it came to her from Malone.

While in St. Louis, Walker – like Malone – was an active member of St. Paul AME Church.

Be sure to join us Thursday, March 26 for a special documentary screening of “Remembering Mill Creek: When We Were There.” Following the film, hear from its creator, director, and other Mill Creek community members as they reflect on the neighborhood’s vibrant culture and intergenerational legacy.
