Sunday, August 3rd is our FIRST SUNDAY, in which we accept the Lord’s invitation to come to His table, having confessed our proneness to live for ourselves, to give thanks for the Cross and His mercy, to remember Jesus, and to proclaim the Good News until He returns for us.

After Holy Communion, we celebrate our fellowship with a meal. This Sunday, it will be a Cookout, with meat and buns provided. Bring your side dishes and desserts to share.

We hope to see you all there on this special Sunday.

Preparing for Worship of our Lord, Sunday, July 27th.

Hello Church family,

It has been so good to have visitors this summer. Be sure to make welcome Bill Jones, who brought his sister Betty, who had visited before. And they may have brought Susan who sat behind them. As I arrived with my nephew David G., and Angela, I was pleased, but concerned to see how full our parking lot was becoming! What a joyous concern! During the summer, a few might desire to park behind the kitchen/fellowship hall. Be sure we never block the Fire Truck bays. When we invite folks to fill out the Welcome cards, look around, and make sure they have a card and a pencil. During the Sunday school hour it is good to invite our bicyclists inside to visit the restrooms as needed. Thank you, Larry, for keeping the Water Cooler full for the many bicyclists. We extend a cup of water in Jesus' Name.
It has been my delight to have extra weeks to prayerfully study the Bible more, and for me personally to continue to seek the renewal of my mind and heart. This Sunday, as part of our study, God through Paul challenges us with this bold declaration: “… We have the mind of Christ.”
My initial reaction was what on earth is Paul basing this upon? Actually, it did not turn out to be on earth. What is your reaction to the words, “We have the mind of Christ?” We will look at what precedes this Statement of Truth. Then we will review what might be considered a progression of how we receive the Mind of Christ. Ponder these scriptures and ask the Holy Spirit to teach us.

2 Corinthians 10: 3-6 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.

1 Corinthians 2: 9-14, 16 9 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him—10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.
16 for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?”
But we have the mind of Christ.

How do we take every thought captive to obey Jesus?

What has the Holy Spirit taught you?

How often in reading and studying the Bible, do you sense the Holy Spirit explaining the meaning to you?

How far are my thoughts removed, from the thoughts of Jesus Christ?

OR
How close am I growing to thinking with the Mind of Christ?

I look forward to being with you next Sunday, FIRST Sunday, when we gather at the Lord’s table, at HIS invitation to remember His love and sacrifice. Then we get to gather for our Covered Dish Cook Out (Meat & Buns provided) on August 3rd. I have been rescheduled for Surgery on 08-08-25, and Rev. Ken Boaz will be back with you on August 10 th.

Our offering plate is at the back of the sanctuary on the table. Checks go into our General Fund, unless marked Benevolence on the memo line. All gifts are appreciated and used to fulfill our Mission Statement: “To Love & Serve Jesus through Service in our Community.”

Preparing for Worship of our Lord, Sunday, July 13th.
I’m looking forward to being with you this Sunday. Then I will be off for 8 to 12 weeks with open heart surgery happening July 18th. I’ve been asked if the church family could gather around me and pray. We will do that at the end of the service, for those who desire to come up, or you may pray from your pews.
Pastor Ken Boaz has agreed to fill in. Many of you know him as he volunteers to deliver AOM meals. Keep him in your prayers throughout these coming weeks.

"Set Your Hearts and Minds on Things Above"
Colossians 3:1-17 NIV 3 Since, then, you have be
en raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died (laid down your life in exchange for Jesus’ life), and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.[b] 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 11 Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues PUT ON LOVE, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Wow, what a powerful statement on salvation and the ongoing work of salvation (sanctification) in our character, our actions, our relationships, etc. Our minds (thoughts) and hearts (passions) are renewed as we keep them focused on Jesus, above, who is seated at the right hand of God and ever interceding in prayer (+Holy Spirit) for us, His children. This chapter provides more Biblical insight into what our part is, in having our minds renewed. We have emphasized actively seeking God through His Word, plus deepening our talking, conversation, and praying with the Lord. Now we have before us, attitudes, actions, and changes in our mindset, which we were called to at salvation. Yet few of us were taught this part of growing as a new Jesus Follower. Now, even many years later, God is offering us to start anew each day and follow these instructions to draw us closer to Him and to our surrendering to reveal His Image in our being. (Ooops, no extra charge, that little sermon slipped out. VP) Please pray over these scriptures and see what the Holy Spirit might prompt us to choose or change.
Our offering plate is at the back of the sanctuary on the table. Checks go into our General Fund, unless marked Benevolence on the memo line. All gifts are appreciated and used to fulfill our Mission Statement: “To Love & Serve Jesus through Service in our Community.”

Preparing for Worship of our Lord, Sunday, July 6th.
Greetings Everyone, I pray you are enjoying a peaceful and grateful July 4th.

Remember Sunday is our First Sunday on which we always celebrate Holy Communion and then follow with a Covered-dish Fellowship Meal. Please wear something red, white, and/or blue to celebrate the Freedom to worship in America. (As desired.)

We will continue in our series on Renewing the Mind based on Romans 8 and Romans 12:2. I have so enjoyed this week digging deeper into Romans 8. It is packed with facts and reveals how Holy Spirit is our Helper, Intercessor, Reassurer*, and Sanctifier. (*I may have made up that word.)

A rough outline (that often changes):

1)Spirit Led=God’s Children Romans 8:14-17
How are you being led by the Spirit? How do we know we are being led by the Spirit? 8:16

2)The Spirit’s Prayer Life 8:26-27 (I will also reference 8:23)
How might we cultivate a prayer relationship with the Holy Spirit that joins Jesus’ and Holy Spirit’s prayers with ours?

3)Transformed to be Conformed 8:28-30 + Romans 12:2
Why are we seeking a renewed mind? What 2 pre-requisites are implied in verse 28 to receive God’s working good for us? Conforming to Jesus’ image is such a high calling, and Holy Spirit will help us keep moving forward.

Please join me in praying over these Scriptures and seeking with me the Biblical answers to these questions. I look forward to seeking God’s renewal in us as we joyfully explore His Word.

On Wednesday’s Prayer Update, I forgot to include Kathleen Lewis, still in the hospital with Pancreatitis and Gallbladder surgery recovery, a Friend of Sherry/Jeff. Please be praying for her.

Romans 12: 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 8: 14-17
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry, “Abba,[b] Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Romans 8:23 “Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.”

Romans 8:26-30
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

Preparing for Worship of our Lord, Sunday, June 29th.

Am I spiritually minded?
One of the questions I keep asking the Holy Spirit is: “How do I know if I am listening to my old, fleshy/worldly mindset, or if I am hearing the desires and promptings of You, Holy Spirit? Paul, in Romans, Chapters 6 through 7, had been wrestling with this same struggle. Prayerfully read over the following verses, and we will seek guidance together on Sunday, when we look at the “Self-driven Mindset,” in contrast to the “Holy Spirit-directed Mindset.” I believe I will use NIV or NKJV at worship, but wanted to loosen our brain paths and ruts to hear a different wording of these Scriptures.
The Message
5-8 Those who think they can do it on their own end up obsessed with measuring their own moral muscle but never get around to exercising it in real life. Those who trust God’s action in them find that God’s Spirit is in them—living and breathing God! Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life. Focusing on the self is the opposite of focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed in themselves ignores God and ends up thinking more about themselves than about God. That person ignores who God is and what he is doing. And God isn’t pleased at being ignored.
9-11 But if God himself has taken up residence in your life, you can hardly be thinking more of yourself than of him. Anyone, of course, who has not welcomed this invisible but clearly present God, the Spirit of Christ, won’t know what we’re talking about.
12-14 So don’t you see that we don’t owe this old do-it-yourself life one red cent. There’s nothing in it for us, nothing at all. The best thing to do is give it a decent burial and get on with your new life. God’s Spirit beckons. There are things to do and places to go!
15-17 This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we’re certainly going to go through the good times with him!
26-28 Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.
29-30 God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him. After God made that decision of what his children should be like, he followed it up by calling people by name. After he called them by name, he set them on a solid basis with himself. And then, after getting them established, he stayed with them to the end, gloriously completing what he had begun.
My ongoing prayer for each of you (and me), is that we will grow in hearing, recognizing, and obeying the Holy Spirit’s leading. We have learned from the Bible that this discernment grows as we get to personally know the Trinity through the Bible, and the precious time we have with the 3 in 1. It also grows in Christ-centered relationships in church families. I am again reminded of my childhood shorter catechism question: “What is the chief end of man?” To glorify God and enjoy Him forever!

Preparing for Worship of our Lord, Sunday, June 22nd.
What a wonderful week to have drawn close to God’s PRESENCE, to worship and adore Him. And now to anticipate worshipping together again to Adore Him on Sunday.
The sermon title will be “Why Seek a Renewed Mind?” We will first review the basic points emphasized in this series on Renewing Our Mind in Jesus. Think about the key points we have reviewed. I cheated and went back and looked at the Sermon Titles and some of the main points:
(Forgive my "shorthand")

On Sunday, we will expand our view of Romans 12, one of the core Scriptures of this Study, to discover the rest of the chapter.
A Living Sacrifice Romans 12:1-16
1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Humble Service in the Body of Christ vs. 3-8
3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
Love in Action vs. 9-21
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[c] Do not be conceited.
1 Peter 2:4-5 4 As you come to Him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to Him— 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house[a] to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
PONDER:
1) Where am I, in laying down myself, to seek God’s Renewal of my heart and mind by soaking in the Bible, praying, and listening for the Holy Spirit to teach me?
2)Had you considered that mind and heart renewal would/will impact your fellow believers, and our church family? And possibly our ministry together?
3)Are there spiritual gifts or positions in the church that I have coveted or misjudged? Am I doing well in using my spiritual gift(s)? (See Pastor if you would like to take a Spiritual Gifts assessment.)
4) Are there individuals in my/our extended church family that I need to forgive and prayerfully realize they are growing more like Jesus, just like me?
5)What is Jesus’ call on my life to be a Priest? What part am I sharing in Worth’s Chapel’s Priesthood?
Please pray for me as our Pastor, for each other in our spiritual growth, and for our church and witness this Sunday, and in the future.

Preparing for Worship of our Lord, Sunday, June 15th.

Good Day to each of you! What a beautiful day in which to praise and serve our Lord God. I pray an extra blessing on our Men on Father’s Day. We all have or had fathers. Many have had children, which we celebrate. Our focus, Sunday, will be on The Fatherhood of God.

Sometime yesterday, I began to sense that the Lord was nudging me to shift away from what I had prepared all week for the service. And Judy was able to help me with some changes in our music. So the Service tomorrow will be fresh off the press and hopefully, the Holy Spirit will be heard and not me.

Throughout the Old Testament, and especially in the Psalms, we see God moving on their hearts in what we now call “Declaration,” or “Proclaimation of His Word.” {Yes, I misspelled it.} Because the Bible was an oral declaration of His Word and interactions, the Hebrew people often sang His Word. This was a way to engrave on their mind, and hearts what God had said and done. That is why Psalms is often called a “Book of Worship, or Book of Hymns.”

I believe this is a time that God would remind us to take comfort and refuge in His Hands. This means trusting in the Fatherhood of God to the extent that our mind and hearts will know security even as the world around us is full of unrest.

Because I will extensively use the Bible, Please ponder them. I would ask that all of you ponder how you have experienced the Fatherhood of God. I would love to have several of you, or more share at the end of the Proclaimation if His Word: How have you experienced and learned to Rest/trust in the Fatherhood of God?

Isaiah 64:8 But now, O Lord, You are our Father, We are the clay, and You our potter; And all of us are the work of Your hand.
Psalm 103:13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.

Isaiah 49:16 See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me. (yes, it is a promise to Jerusalem, but will see other verses where God still speaks of ALL His Children being HELD in His hands.
Isa 41:10, 13 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. 13For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

John 10:27-30 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will sn**ch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all[a]; no one can sn**ch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”

Ezekiel 34:31 You are My sheep, the sheep of My pasture, and I am your God, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”
Matthew 6:26 Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?

Luke 12:29-31 And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying. For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.

Luke 11:13 If you then, being evil(earthly), know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” CEV Contemporary English V
As bad as you are, you still know how to give good gifts to your children. But your heavenly Father is even more ready to give the Holy Spirit to anyone who asks.

Luke 12:32 Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom.

Jesus Said: Matthew 11:27 All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
Romans 8:14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.

1 John 3:1 See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

John 15:9 Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

Please keep everyone at Worth’s Chapel in your regular prayers while there is unrest across the world. Also please pray for those who do not trust in God, as they may feel unrest around them. Pray that they would reconsider the offer of God to bring them into His Family, and into a trusting relationship.

Our offering plate is on the table at the back of the sanctuary. Checks go into our General Fund, unless marked Benevolence on the memo line. All gifts are appreciated, and used to fulfill our Mission Statement: “To Love & Serve Jesus through Service in our Community.”
