In 1910, a group of Presbyterians made an attempt to lay out the Six Great Ends, or great purposes, of the Church. The second mission they named was "the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God."

The Six Great Ends are broad ideals, but we live them out choice by choice. How will you live out your calling to shelter, nurture, and befriend today?

How is it with your spirit?

In some ways, summer can be busier than ever. But slowing down is good for our souls, and the longer days can offer us a chance to linger with what--and who--really matters.

This summer at Crescent Springs Presbyterian, Pastor Carol will lead five weeks of a Sacred Attention group. Modeled after group spiritual direction, this group will offer a place to step away from a hectic world, pray with intention, reflect honestly on our relationship to God and to faith, and give attention to where God is active in our lives. We'll ponder good questions, and leave plenty of room to ask new ones.

The group will meet at the church at 7PM on Wednesday June 10, June 24, July 8, July 22, and August 12. Each session will take about an hour. You are welcome to attend however many sessions work for you and your schedule. This time is for you.

In a way, the church is like an umbrella. We can't quell the storms--only Jesus can do that--but we can offer a place of safety in the midst of them.

In the Book of Acts, the very first church is not a building but a community of people who share everything--money, bread, goodness, praise. It's a beautiful vision of what God's church can be.

It's no coincidence that the word sanctuary has become synonymous with "safe place." How has church been a safe place for you -- and how can you offer that safety to others?

"It plugs me back into the Holy Spirit."

During worship last Sunday, Brad and Joni sat down with Pastor Carol to talk a little bit about what the church offers them, and what they can offer others through the church. Listen in!
