Arthur Dealer (A.D.) Blann and his wife Mary Winifred Spicer have a new headstone at Bethel. It was placed by their great granddaughter, Mary Burnett Porter and her husband, Rick Porter in December.
A.D. and Winifred had 5 children, one of who was Ollie Mai Blann, married Fort George Scott and lived in Marion. They were Mary Porter's grandparents.
One of the stained-glass windows in the sanctuary of the Methodist Church is in memory of A.D. Blann.
A. D. was the son of John "J. C." Blann and Mary Rutland. J. C. moved his family to Crawfordsville in 1876 as a cotton buyer.
A.D. was featured in the Crittenden County Times on May 5, 1905:
"A.D. Blann, head of the firm of M. W. Blann, one of our wealthy men, is a son of Arkansas, having been born and reared at this place. Twice has he seen the town burned and is the oldest merchant - but not in years."
Censuses show however, that he was born in Mississippi.
He was in business as a stock dealer and storekeeper from 1886 on.
A.D.'s wife, Winifred Spicer, came to Crawfordsville from Bartlett, TN as a school teacher. They were married on March 1, 1889, in Cross County.
Winifred was a charter member of the Woman's Book Club, which was the pioneer club of Crittenden County, organized in 1894.
