Fred passed away this afternoon at IU Arnett Hospital after battling with pneumonia. His obituary follows.

Fred G. Lloyd was born November 3rd, 1940 to Paul Nolan and Eva Nelle (Huffman) Lloyd in Anderson, Indiana. The second of three sons, Fred grew up on a farm near Lapel, Indiana, where he learned a great deal about livestock and agriculture. After graduating from Highland High School in Anderson, he attended Purdue University and studied animal science. It was during his time at Purdue that he met Carolyn Elrod, who was studying home economics and English.

Fred graduated in 1963 and went to work for the John Morrell Company in Iowa where he also became a member of the National Guard.

After Carolyn graduated in the summer of 1965, the two were married on August 15th, 1965.

Fred's love of agriculture led him to employment with the Purdue Ag Extension Agency, first in Fountain County, then in White County, and later, back in Fountain County. During his time in White County, his three sons, Mark Allen and twins,Thomas Robert and Daniel Wayne were born.

The young father moved his family back to Fountain County in 1973, where he purchased a modest home and a few acres where he raised sheep, chickens, rabbits, an occasional orphan pig, hunting dogs and a goat or two. A farm rich with chores and responsibilities, he may not have known at the time how richly he was blessing his family as the boys learned many valuable lessons that would shape and prepare them for successes of their own later in life.

Fred was a hard worker with a firm resolve to do the very best at whatever he set his mind to. After leaving the Extension Program to pursue self employment, Fred built miles of fences, baled acres and acres of hay and sheared countless sheep. All the hard jobs, but he took pride in being able to do them and do them right.

Fred lived a blessed life enjoying his work and leisure, taking pride in watching his children and their families grow in love and peace. He lived a full life and leaves this world a better place for having been here.

Fred passed on October 29th, 2025, just shy of his 85th birthday.
He leaves behind his wife Carolyn Jane, a brother Philip, sons Mark (Angie) Lloyd of Covington, Tom (Janelle) Lloyd of West Lebanon, Dan (Janet) Lloyd of Colfax, grandchildren Rachel (Dylan) Stambaugh, Owen (Taylor) Lloyd, Austin Lloyd, Rebekah Lloyd, Nolan Lloyd, Lexi Lloyd and Lauren Lloyd, great grandchild Violet Lloyd, step-grandchildren Jackie Hunter and Shelby Farren, sister-in-law Marilyn Elrod and brother-in-law Robert (Beverly) Elrod, other cousins, neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, younger brother David, and granddaughter, Heather Renee Lloyd.

A visitation will be held from 4-7pm, with funeral service to follow, Friday, October 31st at West Liberty Church of Christ, 2806 SR32 Covington IN.
with pastor Kurt Flora officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Liberty Church of Christ or Covington Food Bank, 412 Crockett Street, Covington, IN.

This Sunday, October 12th, we will continue our study of Jude, specifically 'Contending for the Faith.' Our focus will be on Jude 5-7, with the understanding that false teaching can often appear benign, relevant, and even 'Christian.' However, Jude 5–7 serves as a reminder that God has previously judged falsehood and will do so again. It is essential to remember that holding fast to truth is paramount, as God's love never compromises His holiness, and His grace never condones sin. Remaining grounded in Scripture is crucial, as it provides the sole safeguard against deception.
