THE SABBATH WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE A BURDEN. IT WAS A GIFT.
Before there was a nation, a temple, or the Law at Sinai, there was Sabbath.
Genesis 2:2–3 tells us that on the seventh day, Elohim rested from His work, blessed the day, and made it holy.
The Hebrew word for Sabbath is Shabbat : שַׁבָּת, meaning to cease, stop, or rest.
Later Elohim said:
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” : Exodus 20:8
Sabbath begins Friday evening at sundown and continues until Saturday evening at sundown. It is a set-apart time to stop ordinary work and turn our attention toward Elohim, rest, and restoration.
So what can Sabbath look like?
You can:
• Pray and worship
• Read and study Scripture
• Rest and allow your body to recover
• Spend peaceful time with family
• Fellowship with other believers
• Enjoy Elohim’s creation
• Share a meal together
• Encourage someone who needs hope
• Do acts of mercy and kindness
• Slow down and thank Elohim for what He has done
Yeshua taught us that Sabbath was created for our good:
“The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.” :Mark 2:27
And there is blessing connected to honoring what Elohim has made holy.
“Then you shall delight yourself in the LORD; and I will cause you to ride on the high hills of the earth.” — Isaiah 58:14
SABBATH DECLARATION
Today I cease from striving.
I receive the rest Elohim established for me.
My mind is at peace, my body is restored, and my home is covered in peace.
I trust Elohim with what remains unfinished.
I delight in His presence, honor His Sabbath, and receive the blessing of walking in obedience to His Word.
Shabbat Shalom. May your Sabbath be filled with peace, restoration, worship, and the presence of Elohim.
