And grieve not the Holy Spirit, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. ~Eph. 4:30
♫ Blessed Quietness.♫ This beautiful old hymn gives many things that the Holy Spirit does in our lives. What are some things that grieve our Lord and Savior. I didn't have far to look. They're also in Eph. 4. This list from Scripture is not exhaustive, but it's a start.
Eph. 4 lists some things to check our lives for that grieves and quenches His Spirit...lying, anger, giving the devil a place in my life, stealing, words that tear down instead of ministering grace, bitterness, wrath, clamor (shouting vehemently), evil speaking, malice (desire to inflict harm), lack of kindness, unforgiving. Let's not be powerless and restless because we've quenched His Spirit.
🎶Blessed Quietness🎶
(Written by Manie P. Ferguson, 1897)
Verse 1
Joys are flowing like a river,
Since the Comforter has come;
He abides with us forever,
Makes the trusting heart His home.
Refrain
Blessed quietness, holy quietness,
What assurance in my soul!
On the stormy sea He speaks peace to me,
How the billows cease to roll!
Verse 2
Bringing life and light and gladness,
All around this heav’nly Guest,
Banish’d all our grief and sadness,
Guided into perfect rest.
Verse 3
Like the rain and snow from heaven,
Making earth in verdure shine,
Down into our hearts is given
Sevenfold the grace divine.
Verse 4
See, a fruitful field is growing
Where the desert place had been;
Blossoms now are softly blowing,
And the springs of life begin.
Verse 5
What a wonderful salvation,
Where we always see His face!
What a peaceful habitation,
What a quiet resting place!

Nothing on this earth is permanent or without change, but there are some things that are absolute and will never change.
❤ 1. God. For I am the LORD, I change not.... Malachi 3:6
...the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness (variation) neither shadow of turning (change). James 1:17
God doesn't change like a shifting shadow.
Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever. Hebrews 13:8
❤ 2. God's Word
Forever, O LORD, thy word is settled (firmly fixed) in heaven. Psalm 119:89

🎶 On Christ, the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand. 🎶

The world can change and our lives can change, but if we are standing on the solid Rock . . . Jesus Christ and God's Word . . . we will have peace.

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27 ❤

"Faith came singing into my room, and other guests took flight: Fear and Anxiety, Grief and Gloom sped out into the night. I wondered that such peace could be, but Faith said gently, 'Don't you see? They really cannot live with me.' "
"Trials may put out our light, but they can't silence our song."
🎶 He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase;
To added afflictions He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.

Chorus: His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun. 🎶

Dying to self. It's not easy, but we are called to it. ❤️🙌
"You deserve it." You hear this message in advertisements for everything from chocolates and clothing to day spas and vacation packages...It's so ingrained in our thinking--this entitlement mindset, this demanding of rights--that we don't always stop to see how completely contrary it is to the Spirit of Christ...Do others, by looking at us, see an example of self-serving, rights-claiming pride, or do they see a clear portrait of the humble, servant-hearted Christ? ~Nancy Leigh DeMoss (Repeat)
