And grieve not the Holy Spirit, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. ~Eph. 4:30
♫ Blessed Quietness.♫ This beautiful old hymn gives many things that the Holy Spirit does in our lives. What are some things that grieve our Lord and Savior. I didn't have far to look. They're also in Eph. 4. This list from Scripture is not exhaustive, but it's a start.
Eph. 4 lists some things to check our lives for that grieves and quenches His Spirit...lying, anger, giving the devil a place in my life, stealing, words that tear down instead of ministering grace, bitterness, wrath, clamor (shouting vehemently), evil speaking, malice (desire to inflict harm), lack of kindness, unforgiving. Let's not be powerless and restless because we've quenched His Spirit.
🎶Blessed Quietness🎶
(Written by Manie P. Ferguson, 1897)
Verse 1
Joys are flowing like a river,
Since the Comforter has come;
He abides with us forever,
Makes the trusting heart His home.
Refrain
Blessed quietness, holy quietness,
What assurance in my soul!
On the stormy sea He speaks peace to me,
How the billows cease to roll!
Verse 2
Bringing life and light and gladness,
All around this heav’nly Guest,
Banish’d all our grief and sadness,
Guided into perfect rest.
Verse 3
Like the rain and snow from heaven,
Making earth in verdure shine,
Down into our hearts is given
Sevenfold the grace divine.
Verse 4
See, a fruitful field is growing
Where the desert place had been;
Blossoms now are softly blowing,
And the springs of life begin.
Verse 5
What a wonderful salvation,
Where we always see His face!
What a peaceful habitation,
What a quiet resting place!
