People of the diocese and surrounding community came together, Aug. 20, for a celebration and recognition reception in honor of our 2026 Diocesan Parish Annual Appeal.

As part of the evening, DPAA grants totaling $275,000 were given out to parishes, schools and local organizations who serve the community for needs.

Hispanic ministers from five parishes across our Diocese were invited to participate in a SEPI workshop, Aug 28-30, where they learned how to better lead as directors of the faith for the hispanic community!

Bishop Iffert reminds us that to make a difference in our work, in our lives, in our Diocese, we need to work together. Do not become caught up in your own accolades, but humbly accept the contributions of those around you.

Bishop Howard established St. Therese Parish, Southgate, in 1927. The original combination church and school building was purchased and dedicated by Bishop Howard just months after the parishes establishment. The three-room school building was opened with 74 students under the care of the Benedictine Sisters.
⁣
Given the quick growth of the school and parish, the community quickly outgrew their original structures. A new school and convent were built in 1957, and blessed by Bishop Mulloy. The current church was constructed in 1963 after a long period of growth and development for the parish. It was blessed in 1964 by Bishop Ackerman. Though the church has undergone renovations since its creation, the heart of the parish remains the same – a community built in faith informed by The Little Flower.
