LECTIO DIVINA: May’s Practice of the Month.
In a noisy and distracted world, Jesus invites us to slow down and listen. Scripture is more than information—it is a place of encounter with God. This month we are practicing daily Scripture reading through the ancient practice of Lectio Divina (“Divine Reading”).
“Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”
— 1 Samuel 3:10
Our Goal for May:
Spend 10–15 minutes each day slowing down to hear God through His Word, ideally before you look at your phone, the news, or email. If you miss a day, just begin again tomorrow! Grace over guilt.
The point isn’t to perform or check off a box, but to simply be with Jesus and let His Word shape us.
How to Practice Lectio Divina:
Sit in a quiet, comfortable place. Take a few deep breaths and invite the Holy Spirit to open your heart.
1. READ
Choose a short passage of Scripture. Read it slowly 2–3 times. Ask: What word or phrase stands out to me?
2. REFLECT
Pause and think about what you noticed. Ask: Why might this stand out today? What is God inviting me to notice?
3. RESPOND
Talk with God honestly. Based on what you’ve heard, how should you respond? Pray: Thank You. Help me. Speak more. I surrender…
4. REST
Sit quietly for a minute or two in God’s presence.
Give to God what you have found within your heart and rest in God’s presence. Simply be with God, resting in the unique, one-of-a-kind, unconditional love that God has for you.
