Arlie Enis and the military fellowship in Western Europe began organizing relief shipments to families in those Balkan nations. Beginning with the 1991 war in Kosovo, he made dozens of trips by truck from Germany to those areas carrying tons of humanitarian aid provided by Military Ministries, Compassion Services International, and other donors.
Providentially, one young Serbian boy was profoundly changed by the benevolence of the UPCI and the humanitarian aid provided to his village. Radovan Hajduk walked to the local Pentecostal church to receive some flour and cooking oil for his family. For the first time in his life, he took notice of the Pentecostals. Curious, he began attending service and eventually became a born-again believer and a faithful Pentecostal.
As a teenager, a few years later, he noticed Tanya, the daughter of the missionaries Samual and Pat Balca. Eventually, they married and lived and became ministers in Ontario, Canada, assisted as Aimers in Lithuania, and now are career missionaries to Croatia and Slovenia.
What future missionaries will this year's Compassion Sunday offering produce?
