Our President has asked me to pass this along to each of you!
Notice of Special Meeting of Pennington Family and Cemetery Association Meeting
Meeting Date: June 1, 2024 at Pennington Chapel
Time: 1pm
Dear Association Members and Friends:
I am calling a meeting to discuss and determine the path forward regarding a new fence and extension of the cemetery. At last October’s meeting, the membership requested we get quotes for replacing the fence while also expanding the cemetery footprint by 20 feet to the west. There has been only one project quote for the fencing portion received despite efforts to get others since last October. We also have a quote for tree removal needed to complete the extended fence portion. The quotes are as follows: (fencing quotes dated 10-26-2023)
Option 1: Approximately 650 ft. of 4 ft. black residential grade chain-link fencing with a walk gate and a double gate included (also includes removal of existing fence/posts). $12,000. (section price $184.62)
Option 2: Approximately 650 ft. spaced woven wire fencing with all wood posts, a walk gate and a double gate included (also includes removal of existing fence/posts). $7800. (section price $120.)
Tree removal quote for either Option 1 or Option 2 = $1700. (includes removal of 5 trees and 1 stump)
There has also been a lengthy discussion with the President of the Cemetery Restoration Committee regarding need for submitting paperwork to the State of Indiana to get approval for extending the cemetery fence to the west by approximately 20 feet. He assured Chris Fisher, who spoke directly with him, that the state would consider what we are doing as cemetery improvement and will not require the state’s approval.
Due to the size of the cost of this project, it will require raising the funds to cover the total cost (fencing and tree removal) prior to beginning the project to avoid depleting any funds we currently have that are in place to cover current and future mowing, repairs, insurance, etc. for the cemetery and church property. I would like to have feedback from the membership to assess their level of interest to proceed with the fencing project and the monies willing to be pledged for this project. I will have pledge forms available on June 1 and will request they be returned to Chris by June 21 so we can determine what monies, if any, will need to be raised in addition to pledges made.
Please plan to attend this meeting as it is vital to get our members’ input and buy in if we are to complete this project. Also, please encourage any friends and family of those buried in the cemetery that may not have been at the meeting last October to also attend.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing you on June 1.
Becky Connell, President
