Christ Community Church on Tompkins Street worships at 10:30 am each Sunday morning. Sunday June 21st, Kat Severtsen will give the message about "paying it forward." (The Pastor is off on maternity leave.)

Kat was a charter member of Christ Presbyterian Church in 2000, which later merged with the former United Community Church to form Christ Community Church. She has served as a Deacon and on the governing board and has a special passion for mission. She has helped provide scholarships for high school students in Western Ethiopia as well as supporting local mission.

Kat's original profession as a young adult was elementary education, but over 30 years ago she went to TC3 as a single mom to earn her nursing degree. Her nursing career was at Cortland Hospital, which was bought by Guthrie not long before she retired. She has volunteered not only with the church but with the library, and is very active in the local Elks.

Light refreshments and fellowship are enjoyed after the worship service.

Christ Community Church on Tompkins Street worships at 10:30 am each Sunday morning. Sunday June 14th Dorothy Thomas will give the message, "Gratitude of Faith." (The Pastor is off on maternity leave.)

Dorothy Thomas has been church Pianist since 2000, and has served on the church Mission Committee. In 2014 she went on a Mission trip to Western Ethiopia through the Presbytery of Susquehanna Valley. She has sung with the SUNY Cortland Gospel Choir, the Choral Union and joins the church choir. Twenty years ago Dorothy released two CDs, one of Christmas songs and the other Praise songs, both recorded on the church piano!

Dorothy worked for the Cortland school district as a Teacher Aide in Special Education before retiring in 2021.

Christ Community Church on Tompkins Street worships at 10:30 am each Sunday morning. Sunday June 7th Barry Batzing will give the message. (The Pastor is off on maternity leave.)

Batzing taught at SUNY Cortland as Professor of Microbiology for 36 years, won the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching and was awarded Professor of Biological Sciences emeritus at retirement (photo credit SUNY Cortland). A charter member of the original Christ Presbyterian Church in Cortlandville, he has served on the church governing board, and as Clerk and Treasurer. Around town Batzing can be found playing pickleball.

Christ Community Church on Tompkins Street worships at 10:30 am each Sunday morning. Trinity Sunday May 31st Sharon Holbert will give the message. (The Pastor is off on maternity leave.)

Holbert recently retired from Pall Corporation after over 30 years as Safety Officer. Her avocation is as a vocalist - she has sung with the Syracuse Chorale and as part of special area holiday concerts in performances of great choir pieces like Handel's Messiah or in musical theater. She met husband Bill Holbert through the Syracuse Chorale.

Holbert originally joined United Community Church, a predecessor to Christ Community Church, over 30 years ago when her first husband Richard Reed was the Pastor. She has been a long time Choir Member and active in worship. Sharon has also promoted mission. Her old college friend Ruth Fox and husband Chuck served as Mission Workers in northern Thailand for many years, and Christ Community Church helped support them.

Christ Community Church on Tompkins Street worships at 10:30 am each Sunday morning. Pentecost Sunday May 24th Marina Gorelaya will give the message. (The Pastor is off on maternity leave.,)

Marina has been the church Choir Director since 2008 and before that served the United Community Church downtown. She earned a Master's and a Doctorate in music in her native Ukraine before coming to the United States in 1996. She has served as faculty or staff for both Syracuse University and SUNY Cortland (photo credit SUNY Cortland), and played with local schools, colleges and performance groups. She has also taught private piano lessons over 20 years.

Christ Community Church on Tompkins Street worships at 10:30 am each Sunday morning. Sunday May 17th is Ascension Sunday in the church year, with Pentecost coming next week. Founding Church member Jeff Wheatley will give the message.

Jeff is the first of several special speakers over the next six weeks. The Rev. Rachel Mae Rose is off on maternity leave. Son Bennett was born a little premature this past week; please keep him and birth mother Courtney in your prayers.

Dorothy Thomas is Pianist, and Marina Gorelaya is Choir Director. Light refreshments and fellowship are enjoyed after the worship service.

Christ Community Church on Tompkins Street worships at 10:30 am each Sunday morning. Sunday May 10th is Mother's Day. The Rev. Rachel Mae Rose will preach for the last time before a 6 week maternity leave. Son Bennett is due this coming week, joining older sister Rita in the family.

Several church members will be special speakers in the coming weeks. Dorothy Thomas is Pianist, and Marina Gorelaya is Choir Director. Light refreshments and fellowship are enjoyed after the worship service.

Christ Community Church on Tompkins Street worships at 10:30 am each Sunday morning. Sunday May 3rd the Lectionary gospel reading is from John 14:1-14. As the 1st Sunday in the month, Communion will also be celebrated.

Church Pastor is Rachel Mae Rose, Dorothy Thomas is Pianist, and Marina Gorelaya is Choir Director. Light refreshments and fellowship are enjoyed after the service.
