✝️ THIS WEEK AT SALEM — “THE BROTHER BATTLE”

This week we conclude our sermon series, “The Journey.”

In the story of the Prodigal Son, we see a conflict between two brothers — an emotional and moral clash rather than a physical battle.

The younger brother asks for his inheritance early, leaves home, and wastes his money on wild living.

The older brother stays home and works hard, but harbors deep bitterness.

Two brothers. Two very different paths. Two types of loss in the same story.

Join us this week as Pastor Dau concludes “The Journey” with a message that takes a closer look at both brothers and what their story has to teach us.

This Saturday is a special night at Salem as we continue Pastor Dau’s sermon series “The Journey” AND surround our students with prayer during our Backpack Blessing!

From preschool through college, bring your backpack to worship! Pastor Dau and our congregation will pray over our students as they begin another school year — for guidance, protection, confidence, good friendships, and a wonderful year ahead. ❤️🙏

✝️ THE JOURNEY — WEEK TWO: “THE RETURN”

This week Pastor Dau continues The Journey with “The Return.”

Through the Parable of the Lost Sheep, the Lost Coin, and the Prodigal Son, we’ll look at stories of something lost — and the joy of redemption.

These parables remind us of the boundless mercy of our Father, His divine love, and God’s refusal to put limits on the measure of His grace.

No matter where your journey has taken you, there is joy in The Return. ❤️

🎒✨ BACKPACK BLESSING AT SALEM ✨🎒

As our kids head into a brand-new school year, we want to send them off surrounded by prayer, encouragement, and the love of their church family. ❤️

💚 WOW, SALEM — WHAT A DAY! 💚

We went into this weekend with a BIG list and hopes of getting as much accomplished as we could over two days… and thanks to the incredible amount of support and volunteers who showed up today, our weekend project turned into a ONE-DAY project! 🙌❤️

Just look at what was accomplished today:

🪟 ALL the windows in the Education section were replaced!
🔨 Old siding was removed
🌳 North property-line trees were removed
🌳 East property-line trees were trimmed up
🪵 Tornado-damaged stumps were cut down even further
🪵 Logs were removed
🌿 Sticks and branches were picked up (Large tree pile still remains)
🪨 The rock pile in the middle drive was relocated
🧹 Sidewalks and the basketball court were edged and cleaned up
🛠️ And that’s only SOME of what happened outside!

Then add in all the work happening inside the church, the people keeping everyone fed, the meals that were prepared and served, and all the little jobs being tackled everywhere you looked… it was truly AMAZING to see. ❤️

We are so incredibly blessed by our Salem congregation, families, friends and community. People showed up ready to work, jumped in wherever they were needed and accomplished more in one day than we could have imagined.

Because of all of YOU, there will NOT be a Salem Cleanup Day tomorrow, Sunday, August 23rd! 🎉 We finished our weekend list TODAY!

Our new siding has not arrived yet and is currently expected Tuesday. Once it arrives, a text message will go out for anyone who may be available and willing to help with siding in the evenings.

For now, put those tools away, rest those sore muscles and ENJOY YOUR SUNDAY! You certainly earned it. ❤️

And to all of our Salem youth heading back to school Monday — we wish you a fabulous first day and an amazing school year! 📚✏️

💚 TOMORROW’S THE DAY SALEM NEEDS ALL HANDS! 💚

If you’ve been wondering how you can help Salem Church after the tornado, this weekend is your chance!

Saturday, August 22nd & Sunday, August 23rd
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM both days

We have a BIG list and would love to have a BIG crew to tackle it! You do not have to be a member of Salem to come help. Bring a friend, bring your family, bring your tools — and come for an hour, a few hours, or stay all day. Every single set of hands helps!

This weekend we’ll be working on:
🔨 Siding & windows
🌳 Tree removal
🌿 Landscaping & cleanup
💪 And anything else we can knock off the list!

Lunch is provided BOTH days!

And Saturday at 5:00 PM, we’ll put down the tools and gather for worship. Come as you are work clothes, dirty boots and all!

If you have hand tools, garden tools, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows or other equipment that may be useful, bring it along!

We have come a long way since the tornado, but there is still work to do. This weekend is about neighbors, friends, families and our church community coming together to get Salem looking beautiful and welcoming again.

Many hands really do make light work, and we need as many hands as we can get this weekend!

📚✏️ FREE SCHOOL SUPPLIES AVAILABLE! ✏️📚

We were blessed with a very generous donation of school supplies to help our L.I.F.T students get ready for the new school year! ❤️

Skip the trip to the city to finish that school supply list, check with us first! We have notebooks, folders, crayons, glue, pencil boxes and lots more available FREE at Salem Church.

If your kiddos need school supplies and traveling to the city is not on the agenda, please don’t hesitate to take advantage of this. That is exactly what they were donated for! 🥰

The church will be unlocked Monday night 8/17, 6-7:30 or just text Deidre at 712-212-4877 and let her know a time that works for you, and she will meet you at the church to unlock it so you can grab what you need.

Such a wonderful example of neighbors helping neighbors and supporting our local students. ❤️
