Does anyone remember back when John and Paula Seaman, Carole Murphrey, and Elddy Trevino made up our church band? Was Bret Walker our Praise and Worship Leader then? Below is Elddy on the left. He sang tenor and was our drummer. He just WON an EMMY AWARD for best composition!!! Amazing!

James Edward "Buddy" Murphrey went to be with the Lord August 13, 2021, at the age of 89. He was loved by many and we are sad to have lost him, but know he is fully alive in God's presence.
Buddy was born in Freeport, Texas on June 25, 1932 to Tom and Pauline Murphrey. He graduated from the University of Corpus Christi. At age 20, Buddy became pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Freer, Texas and married Charmaine Crawford from Corpus Christi. They had four children, Tom, John, Tim and Helen. Charmaine has gone to be with the Lord.
In 1955, Buddy served as Assistant Pastor to Brother Lester Roloff at Alameda Baptist Church in Corpus Christi. Later, he started Blanco Road Baptist Church in San Antonio. In 1965, Buddy returned to Corpus Christi and became Assistant Director of the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission with his father, Tom Murphrey. When his father passed away, he took the reins of the Good Samaritan. Since then, Buddy and his wife, Carole, who serves as Executive Director, have expanded the Good Samaritan to become the largest homeless shelter south of Houston.
In 1967, Brother Buddy became pastor of Southcrest Baptist Church in Corpus Christi at age 35 and was still actively preaching until he passed away. He was a beloved pastor, had a servant's heart and love for all people. Buddy had a passion for soul winning and impacted many lives during his ministry. He authored multiple books and publications that have been translated and distributed across many countries.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Carole; his three sons: Tom Murphrey (Getty), John Murphrey, Tim Murphrey (Andrea), and his daughter, Helen Murphrey. He was affectionately known as Dubby by his six grandchildren (Melissa, Jessica, Michael, Matthew, Morgan, and Aaron) and four great-grandchildren (Abigail, Brennan, Caleb, and Axel). Buddy was a loving brother who adored his three precious sisters, Betty Sue Smith (Bob), Connie Lyons Howe (Mark) and Carolyn Little (Earl).
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Good Samaritan Rescue Mission. Because of the large size of the Murphrey family and due to COVID concerns, there will be a small private burial service for family. A public celebration of Buddy’s life will be postponed to a later date.
