2 Samuel 11:1-3

‘Defeated’

“In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem. One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.””
There was absolutely no reason for David to sin. David was the mightiest warrior of ever and yet he decided on day to take a break. He decided to let others fight the battles of the Lord and his distraction and complacency brought about the very thing that he hated most, he sinned against his God.
Paul said that we are more than conquerors in Roman’s 8:37 “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Jesus tells us in Revelation 2-3 that we are to overcomers and victorious. David chose complacency and apathy get to him, and his complacency and apathy led him to sin.
Why do we stop fighting the battles of this life, and stop running the race to the very end? Why do we give in to self, sin and evil desires? Why do not put on our army each and every day to defeat that which leads us into sin? Because we think that we are His and stop running the race daily. We think that all is well yet there is still a battle to be won.
Are we fighting for our homes or just allowing being tired cause us to sin? Are we fighting for others or are we simply safe in our comfortable lives? Are we fighting for our children, our friends, our church members? The reality is that we are not because we do not want to go into battles with others. We assume that we are victorious, and that in itself is sin.
David took a break from doing what God wanted him to do. Instead of fighting with his men for his country he decided to take a break. When we do the same, and we stop having a daily quiet time, the battle will come to us and we will be defeated each and every time. Like David, sin will take over us because we did not out in His armor daily. One sin led to another after that night and it will do the same to us. Stay in the battle and fight it daily or we too will allow complacency and apathy lead us and keep us in sin. Be victorious and fight the daily battles. Be more than conquerors in Him~

1 John 5:16-17

‘Sin’

“If you see any brother or sister commit a sin that does not lead to death, you should pray and God will give them life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that you should pray about that. All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.”
What in the world is John saying? Throughout 1 John, 2 John and 3 John, John makes it clear that if someone is in sin and have not truly repented and stopped sinning, then that person is truly born again. Throughout all scripture God calls us to be holy and righteous, not sinners.
So why does John declare that there is a sin that does not lead to death? It is quite simple. We all know what is not pleasing to God is sin. We all know that if we sin we must repent and stop sinning. That is easy to understand. Unintentional sin is merely doing something that we did not know was sin. However; when we realize that what we are doing does not please God it becomes intentional. I used to think it was okay to get angry, and I knew that anger was wrong, but until the Holy Spirit, the Bible and others revealed to me that it was sin, then when I got angry I knew it was sin. We all know as believers anger is sin and we all know that before we get angry we knew it and still chose to get angry, it became intentional instead of unintentional.
The problem today is that we think sinning against God is okay. We forget that we intentionally sin against Him when we know better. We cannot say that we did not know we were about to sin when chose to sin, so then we are still subject to “The wages of sin still brings death.”
We are always, maybe subconsciously, trying to feel good or justify our sin. It does not take anyone else, theologians and their commentaries to understand the truth. We sin and we know better. Sin becomes intentional.
If indeed we are true believers, then we have the Holy Spirit to reveal sin to us. We were all created knowing right from wrong according to Romans 1. Now, are we going to continue to look for a loop hole in scripture and think lightly of sin, and think that God is going to overlook our choices to sin or repent and stop sinning against Him? If we are not recognizing that a sin is sin, and we continue to think that our deliberate sinning is unintentional, then we have a very rude awakening coming and we absolutely do not have the Holy Spirit in us because He will make it known to us. Sin or Him? There are no excuses~

2 Samuel 9:8
Mark 7:27

‘Humility brings Blessings’

“Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should notice a dead dog like me?”” 2 Sam. 9:28).
““First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.””
(‭‭Mark‬ ‭7‬:‭27‬).
These two verses will teach us more about us than a lot of other verses.
Mephibosheth knew that compared the David, his glory and his honor, that he was merely nothing compared to David. The Greek woman knew that she was nothing compared to Jesus. Ironically, they both declared themselves as those who were dogs compared to their masters. This is exactly how we too should come to Christ and how we should respond. We should respond in humility not arrogance.
Immediately I am led to the words of John the Baptist in John 3:30 “He must become greater; I must become less.”” There is no pride in any of these scriptures. Only humility and truth. Each one of these examples displayed their humility and this is exactly why they were blessed. Why their masters blessed them.
Too many times we come to Christ with the attitude of telling Him what He should do for us. We tend to be equal with Him rather than be submissive to Him. Let these verses really sink in today. Will we be willing to be like a lowly dog in our asking Him to do what we need done in our lives? Our prayers for ourselves, and others? Both of their situations were changed due to their humility. Do whatever we need to do in order to humbly come before Him. Then He will answer and we will receive whatever we ask. Jesus make us humble, humble like a dog in order to receive what we ask for~

Over the past several days I have read one of the greatest ‘untruths’ that we can believe and share with others. “We have nothing to do with our salvation.” That is false. Jesus tells us quite clearly that we must deny ourselves and take up our crosses. He also tells us that only those who endure to the end will be saved. The problem with those who espouse this heresy is that they are leading people into a place of unbelief, a welfare christianity that will cause them to turn from Christ instead of standing up for Christ, taking up their crosses and dying to self. Is that not our part in this covenant which many abandon because of heretical teaching.
A covenant with Christ is and always will be a two way street. He keeps His covenant with us, and we must keep our covenant with Him. Is that not working our our salvation with fear and trembling as Paul states? Is that not our part in receiving salvation and keeping it? If salvation does all the work then why are the majority of so called believers still struggling with and daily sinning? It’s not His choice, but ours.
James hits the nail on the “Faith without works is dead.” This ungodly teaching of “There is nothing we have to do, it’s only Him that does it” is leading the multitudes to hell daily. He saves us, but it is up to us to do our part in order to remain saved. It is up to us to remain saved.
Whenever you hear someone tell you that it’s all about what He did and that we have to do nothing is absurd and heretical. “Yes” He is the only One that can save, but after we are saved it is up to us to forsake sin, take up our crosses and be holy as He is holy. Without holiness (up to us), no one will see the Lord (Heb. 12:13).

2 Samuel 7:28

‘Believe’

“Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.”
Do we believe that His covenant is trustworthy? If so, then why do we fear the trials and tribulations of this world? Why would we fear anyone or any groups of people? Has God not promised to take care of us? Is that not the covenant that He made with us?
How is it then that we fear the world rather than Him? We fear others rather than Him? The enemy rather than Him? Has He not been good to us and continued to deliver us?
If we do not believe His Word is trustworthy then how would we ever have the faith to move forward and stop backing up? His Word is trustworthy and from the beginning to the end it is His covenant to us that keeps moving forward instead of backwards. If we keep heading backwards then in essence we believe that His covenant is not trustworthy. We still do not believe.
Today, make sure that like David, we have the faith to overcome all things because His covenant with us will get us through any and everything this world and others will throw at us. His covenant to us is still trustworthy. Is our covenant to Him the same~
