The St. John’s Landscape Team, under the guidance of Betty Thompson, recently planted three beautiful rose bushes in the Sanctuary Garden Courtyard.

Each rose bush has been lovingly placed in memory of three men who were deeply devoted to the life and ministries of our church: Robert D. Garza, Jeff Crumpler, and Michael Linnane.

As we remember them, we hold close the promise that one day He “will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain” (Revelation 21:4). Their legacy of faith, service, and love continues to bloom among us.. John's United Methodist ChurchCathi GarzaDonna Endicott LinnaneBetty Thompson

God’s Door is Open 🚪
Weekly Devotional
by Pastor Harold Onwiler
Read Mark 33-39

As we observe Holy Week, especially Good Friday, we often focus on the last words of Jesus. Since the words, “and the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. (Mark 15:38-39) are not spoken by Jesus we often tend to skip over them. Yet all three of the Synoptic Gospels make it a
point to include them.

If you were told you were free to enter the Oval Office at the White House, you’d shake your head and say something like, “You are playing with a deck that is a few cards short.” Multiply your disbelief by ten thousand, and you’ll have an idea how a Jew would feel if someone told him or her
they could enter the Holy of Holies— a part of the Temple separated from the rest of the temple by a heavy curtain that reached from the ceiling to the floor. To pass through that curtain was unthinkable.

No one could enter that area except the high priest and then only one day a year. Some traditions even say that when the High
Priest entered that space they would tie a rope to one of his legs so if he became stricken down, they could pull him out without entering themselves. Why? Because the glory of God was present there. God is holy, and we are sinners. There is a distance between us, to enter into God’s presence was a fearful thing. Jesus died to destroy that distance and throw open to all the access to God’s holiness and grace. The door is open to you. God welcomes you into his presence and offers you forgiveness and a place at his table. As 1 Timothy 2:5 says, “There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man, Jesus Christ.”

God welcomes you. He is not avoiding you. The door is open. God invites you in. May you experience the presence of God in a fresh way as we enter through the door of Christ’s redemptive love this Holy Week and the joy of Easter that is yet to come. It may be Friday in your life but Sunday is coming and new life awaits you.
