“Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.”
2 Corinthians 6:17 NKJV
Enjoying God’s presence in life requires personal holiness. Paul sought to instruct the Corinthians, who were a noted corrupt and perverse people, how to have a personal relationship with the God of the universe. So, Paul quotes the prophets Isaiah, and Ezekiel to bring his point home. “Coming out” from the worldly society we live among today requires personal discipline. Some people feel personal discipline in the Christians life can lead to “self-righteousness.”
Well, this might happen to those who are overzealous people. But, if they are led by the Spirit, they will grow in God’s grace and be changed by the Spirit. Those who are uncaring and slothful in life will miss out on the blessings of the Lord. First of all, they will not enjoy the presence of the Lord in their daily living.
Paul went on to write from these two Old Testament prophets this encouragement from the Lord in verse eighteen... “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” God is a Father who cares for His children! He will care for us as a “good, good father” as the popular song says. All that is required from us is to walk, even flee at times, from the filth of this perverted world. That will produce in us a special relationship with our God as His blessed children!
