A PRAYER FOR LABOR DAY:

On this day we pray for the work people do to sustain themselves and their families and benefit their communities and society. We pray that all will receive fair wages and benefits, work in safe environments, receive respect and gratitude, experience joy and fulfillment in their labor and be renewed through times of sabbath. We remember in prayer also those seeking employment or unable to work. All this we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry has issued his fourth in a series of monthly messages that continue through the end of this year, titled “All Together in One Place."

Each message will share a pastoral word, rooted in Scripture, that witnesses to God's presence today, our rich theological tradition and the social teaching that connects us.

O God our defender, storms rage around and within us and cause us to be afraid. Rescue your people from despair, deliver your sons and daughters from fear, and preserve us in the faith of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Loving God,

We pray for all who are affected by the devastating wildfires in France, Spain, and throughout Europe. Draw near to those who have been forced to flee their homes, those who are grieving loss, and those facing an uncertain tomorrow. Surround them with your comfort, strength, and hope.

Protect firefighters, emergency responders, medical teams, and volunteers who work tirelessly to save lives and safeguard communities. Grant them wisdom, endurance, and safety as they face dangerous conditions.

We remember farmers whose fields have burned, families whose livelihoods have been disrupted, and the forests, wildlife, and landscapes that have been scarred by the flames. Bring healing to the earth and renewal where destruction now seems overwhelming.

Inspire leaders, neighbors, and people around the world to respond with compassion, generosity, and care. Remind us that we are one human family, called to bear one another's burdens across every border.

God of hope, bring rain to the dry places, peace to anxious hearts, and courage to all who face the days ahead. May your presence be a source of strength today and your promise of new life sustain all who long for restoration.

In the name of Christ, who brings light even in the darkest times, we pray.

Amen.

May we continue to hold our siblings in France, Spain, and across Europe in prayer.

Faithful God, most merciful judge, you care for your children with firmness and compassion. By your Spirit nurture us who live in your kingdom, that we may be rooted in the way of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Happy Fourth of July!

"Today we celebrate the history and independence of the United States as well as the long history of Native Americans in North America before the birth of our nation. Pray for the wisdom and resolve we need to ensure freedom, justice and equity for all people — in our nation and around the world." —Prayer Ventures
