"When I’m Gone: Planning Ahead for Peace of Mind.”
Most of us know, in theory, that we will not be here to make decisions after we are gone—but only occasionally do we feel that truth in a way that moves us to act. Recently, one of our members experienced exactly such a moment. As a result, she met with a funeral director to pre-plan her funeral, spoke with her pastor to express her wishes for her memorial service, and consulted an elder-care attorney about making a roadmap for the future, including power of attorney, health-care proxy, and estate planning. She discovered that taking these steps was far easier—and far more comforting—than she expected. In fact, she has proposed that we offer a program early next year to encourage others in the congregation to plan ahead. Pat Parker will share her experience; Pastor Jeff will provide a simple worksheet for planning a memorial service; and we will welcome elder-care attorney Stefanie Sovak, who will guide us through the legal and financial aspects of preparing for “after we’re gone” and answer our questions
