Church Growth and the Shepherd 🐑

In 2026 many churches blame the pastor when the church is not growing. People say, “The pastor is not drawing the people.”

But the Bible calls pastors shepherds.

And here is something important about shepherds:

A shepherd cannot make sheep reproduce.

Sheep reproduce because they are healthy sheep.

The shepherd’s responsibility is to:

• Feed the sheep
• Protect the sheep
• Lead the sheep
• Equip the sheep

The Bible says in Ephesians 4:12 that pastors are to equip God’s people to do the work of ministry.

That means church growth is not just the pastor’s responsibility.

Sheep produce sheep.

Members invite people.
Families bring families.
Young people reach other young people.
Believers share their faith.

When the flock is healthy, the flock will grow.

So instead of asking only,
“Is the shepherd doing his job?”

We should also ask,
“Are the sheep healthy enough to multiply?”

Here’s the truth:

A shepherd cannot make sheep multiply.
But a faithful shepherd can make sheep healthy.
And when sheep get healthy… the flock will grow.
