We invite you to worship with us this Sunday, September 6, as we continue our study in the book of 1 Thessalonians.

We will begin studying 1 Thessalonians this Sunday. To better appreciate the context of the first chapter, you may want to review Acts 17:1-9, where Paul’s visit to that Macedonian city is described. You will note that from the very beginning Paul and the believers in Thessalonica were persecuted by the Jewish religious elites in the area. Notice also that Gentile (Greek) believers were included in the church (Acts 17:4). We are also told in Acts 20:4 that two believers from Thessalonica joined the group of believers that accompanied Paul as he journeyed.

We invite you to worship with us this Sunday, August 30, as we continue our study in the book of Mark.

The Gospel of Mark closes with a brief overview of Jesus’ appearances and teaching after His resurrection. The other Gospels and Acts (Matthew 28:9-10, Luke 24:12-53, John 20:3-21:25, and Acts 1:3-11) record more details, so you may want to reread them as you think about these events. Paul also writes in 1 Corinthians 15:6 that after His resurrection Jesus was seen by over 500 believers in Galilee. It is important to notice that after His resurrection we have no record of Jesus appearing to any unbelievers. Those who later came to believe only did so after hearing the testimony of the Apostles and other believers (for example, as recorded in Acts 2). You might also wish to consider Luke 16:27-31.

We invite you to worship with us this Sunday, August 23, as we continue our study in the book of Mark.

We now come to Mark’s account of Jesus’ resurrection. These events are also recorded in Matthew 27:57-28:10, Luke 23:50-24:12, and John 19:38-20:10. While this event is very familiar to us, its importance cannot be underestimated. For example, Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 15:17, “And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.” We understand that, by His death, Christ atoned for our sins, so why is His resurrection so very important?
