We invite you to worship with us this Sunday, June 7, as we continue our study in the book of Mark.

Mark gives us a brief description of what we know as “The Last Supper” in chapter 14:12-31. John provides a much more detailed account in chapters 13-17 of his Gospel. In Mark 14:18-21, Jesus announces that one of the 12 is going to betray Him. Notice the disciples’ response. You may also want to compare these verses in Mark to John 13:18-30.

In chapter 3, Mark records that great crowds are flocking to see and listen to Jesus. In verse 9 Jesus accommodates these crowds, but they become so large and intrusive that He and His disciples cannot even find a time and place to eat (verse 20). In verse 21, His “friends” are concerned about H...

We invite you to worship with us this Sunday, May 31, as we continue our study in the book of Mark.

Mark begins chapter 14 by telling us that it is now just two days before Passover, and that the religious elites badly want to get rid of Him but are afraid of the people’s response should they arrest Him. The scene then shifts to Bethany, where Jesus and His disciples are attending a feast at Simon the l***r’s house. Although we don’t have a record of a l***r named Simon, he must have been healed from his leprosy. A l***r would not be able to host a feast in his house. While there, an unknown woman comes in and empties a box of perfume on his head. This is not the first time something like this has happened to Him (see Luke 7:36-40). Immediately after this, Judas goes to the chief priests and offers to betray Him. This is exactly the break the chief priests need and sets in motion their plot to kill Him. What prompted Judas to decide to betray his Master?

We invite you to worship with us this Sunday, May 24, as we continue our study in the book of Mark.

In Mark 13:24-27, Jesus finishes His prophecy about the future of Israel by telling His disciples about His coming to establish His kingdom. Because they assumed that He would begin establishing an earthly kingdom any day now, His disciples may have been confused by His statements about the signs that would precede His arrival. Notice that, in contrast to the sign of the destruction of the temple, the signs He mentions that precede His return are not as specific. For example, read verse 35. What are we to make of these signs? Here are some relevant passages that you might want to consider as you think about what He told His disciples about the future: Matthew 24:27-31, Luke 21:25-28, Zechariah 14:1-9, and Revelation 6:13-17.
