LinkedIn: We make hundreds of decisions every week — about our work, our relationships, our habits, our words. But how often do we stop to ask: where is all of this actually taking me?
This past Sunday, our sermon from Proverbs 4:20–27 posed a question worth sitting with far beyond a church service: Who's steering your life?
Solomon's instruction is surprisingly practical. He doesn't start with behavior — he starts with attention. Before he tells us what to do with our hearts, he tells us what to do with our ears. Because what we consistently give our attention to begins to shape how we think, how we respond, and ultimately, what we become.
The framework he offers is simple but demanding:
• Be intentional about what you listen to.
• Guard your heart — it's the source, not just a feeling.
• Pay attention to your words; they reveal what's happening inside.
• Consider your path, not just your next step.
One line from the message stayed with me: "Every step is taking us somewhere." That's true in leadership, in relationships, and in life. Direction is rarely set in one dramatic moment — it's established through small, daily choices about what we give our attention to.
Worth reflecting on this week: What voices are shaping your thinking right now? And are they taking you where you actually want to go?
I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
