🍩❤️ TOMORROW IS NATIONAL DONUT DAY!

Did you know that National Donut Day was actually started by The Salvation Army?

In 1917, during World War I, Salvation Army officers and volunteers traveled to France to support American troops on the front lines. Two courageous women, Ensign Margaret Sheldon and Adjutant Helen Purviance, began frying donuts for soldiers in difficult conditions, bringing a taste of home, comfort, encouragement, and hope during one of the darkest times in history. These women became known as the legendary “Donut Lassies.”

Because of their service, The Salvation Army established National Donut Day in 1938 to honor the Donut Lassies and raise support for those struggling during the Great Depression. More than 85 years later, we continue that tradition of service and compassion.

More than a century later, The Salvation Army remains on the front lines, fighting poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, and addiction alongside vulnerable individuals and families across the United States. Learn more: https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/national-donut-day/
