Do you need guidance today? Is there a hollowness in your soul? Do you want to better understand the world around you?

First, pray to God and ask for help in knowing your mission on earth. Begin to read and pray the Psalms along with reading any gospel, Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John.

You will find the answers to life: Why am I here, What am I doing, and Where am I going?

This will be the best day of your life. A new beginning.

My vespers for this evening:

Psalm 4,

1Answer me when I call,
O God of my righteousness!
You have relieved my distress;
show me grace and hear my prayer.

2How long, O men, will my honor be maligned?
How long will you love vanity and seek after lies?

3Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for Himself;
the LORD hears when I call to Him.

4Be angry, yet do not sin;
on your bed, search your heart and be still.

5Offer the sacrifices of the righteous
and trust in the LORD.

6Many ask, “Who can show us the good?”
Shine the light of Your face upon us, O LORD.

7You have filled my heart with more joy
than when grain and new wine abound.
8I will lie down and sleep in peace,
for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.

This week we will complete Session 3 of Mercy Triumphs, by Beth Moore and we continue the study of the Book of James. Marcene will again lead our class. . If you have not already done so, please read over and complete Day #3, Day #4 and Day # 5 (pages 83-95). Also please read James 1:26-2:13 in preparation for our time together. In class last week, we each decorated a small mirror as a reminder to not only listen to the Word but to DO it! And to keep that command in our forefront of our minds and hearts, Marcene challenged us to memorize James 1:23-25. If you were unable to be with us, you may want to pick up the materials for your own "reminder mirror". We will mutually encourage each other to both hear and DO God's Word.

Plan to join us & bring a friend; sharing God's Word in a beautiful thing to do! Everyone is invited to table fellowship, at the 105 Cafe, immediately after class. See you Tuesday, 10 a.m.. You will find our Tuesday WOW Class gathered in the 5th grade classroom in the Children's Wing. Looking forward to our time together!

"Fasting reminds us that we are sustained by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matt. 4:4). Food does not sustain us; God sustains us." Richard Foster, Celebration of Discipline

Join Women of the Word this evening as we continue the study by Richard Foster: Celebration of Discipline (A study of the spiritual disciplines). This week Pam Messecar will lead us as we continue our study and exploration of the Spiritual Discipline of Fasting. For most of us this is somewhat new territory; we are finding this particular topic one which is both challenging and intriguing. Plan to join us in the WOW room tonight at 7 p.m. See you there!!

Week #3 in our James study is aptly titled. “Words that Free Us.” God’s Words have a long history or “freeing us” to be who and what He created us to be. As we gathered for corporate worship this morning, we were reminded that some of the most freeing words ever written were given to Moses. Written by the very finger of God, the Ten Commandments, & the entire of the Law of Moses, gave the Israelites both boundaries and freedom within those boundaries to be who and what God created and called them to be. James is also about the business of giving us God inspired words to be who and what God created us to be. We are freed to DO as God would have DO! WOW

In preparation for our Tuesday, February 14th class, Marcene is asking that we read James 1:19-25. Our assignment also includes Days #1 & Day #2 of Week 3 (pages 71-82). Our table discussion will focus on this material & the inspired “Words that Free Us.”

Please come and bring a friend; it is never too late to join our class and our study!! And, as always, there is an open invitation to join us at the 105 Café after class.

“How sweet are Your Words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.” Psalms 119:103

“Prayer catapults us onto the frontier of the spiritual life. Of all the Spiritual Disciplines prayer is the most central because it ushers us into perpetual communion with the Father.” Richard Foster, Chapter 3 entitled “The Discipline of Prayer” from Celebration of Discipline. This Wednesday evening, February 1st, Pam Messecar will continue to guide our time together as we explore the both the blessings of prayer and God’s call for us to pray. As we prepare for our time together Pam has asked that we continue our reading in Chapter 3. She is also asking that we consider the following questions:

What practices, habits or techniques help you in your prayer life?

What things might be keeping you from your best prayer life?

We are indeed, richly blessed by this time together with God and with our Wednesday community. Come and share this blessing as we focus on the gift, privilege & power of Prayer. See you in the WOW room Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

We are starting a brand new year with new opportunities, adventures, changes and probably more than a few unknowns. What we do know is that our God is unchanging and that His "God Breathed Word", the Bible, is ever fresh and new and, yet, never changing. The God Who created the World is also the God with Whom we daily walk. Much of Scripture either directly or indirectly addresses our daily walk with God. The focus of our Spring 2023 semester study is the New Testament book of James, which deals with multiple facets of that daily walk with God by exhorting and encouraging us to put our faith into practice. Mercy Triumphs, by Beth Moore, will be out study guide.

This week, 1/10/23, at 10 a.m. Dorene Helton will introduce us to the book of James as well as to the study guide. The Introductory class will begin at 10 a.m. and end around 11:30 a.m.
A reminder that Study Guides will be available for purchase and we are continuing to meet in the Children's Wing.

Our Tuesday morning time together changes us individually, as a member of our class and the Body of Christ. How exciting it is to know that no matter our season of life, we are empowered to grow closer to God through study and as a community of believers; what a grand challenge, gift and opportunity!! Please plan to come and bring a friend! Remember Dutch Treat Table Fellowship, at the 105 Cafe, immediately after class.

Wednesday WOW

We trust that your time with your family and friends over Christmas was uplifting and full of joy.

We will gather again for Wednesday night WOW on Jan. 4, 2023, at 7:00-7:45 in the WOW room, January through May. (Schedule of classes attached). We will embark on a study of Spiritual Disciplines.

You may be familiar with the classic book Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster. In fact, you may have studied the topic before, but the study remains one that may be revisited throughout a lifetime. And this time you are privileged to study the disciplines through the eyes of your sisters in Christ: We get each other. We understand the struggles common to women. We understand the smallest triumphs are an indication that God listens and acts. We understand that we grow through sharing and transparency.

You may own a copy of the book, or you may purchase one at your favorite bookseller. However, it’s not necessary to have a copy to benefit from the study.

1. To prepare for our first class, think about the word “discipline,” and what first comes to mind when you hear or read that word.
2. Below, you will find a list of the disciplines that we will be studying, please pray over the list and ask God to help you choose the one in which you most excel.
3. Consider the list again, and then choose the three you most lack. Number them in importance as to which you would like to seek first, second, and third.

If you are comfortable in our class time, be prepared to share your answers and comment as to why.

Inward Disciplines: Meditation, Prayer, Fasting, Study
Outward Disciplines: Simplicity, Solitude, Submission, Service
Corporate Disciplines: Confession, Worship, Guidance, Celebration

Your teaching team is praying for you and your relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that we may all grow in the grace of God and his service to others.

For the teaching team,
Cathy Messecar (936.520.0008, text if you need to)
