I am tired of hearing self professing Christians blame the sin(s) that they have committed after salvation on some imaginary "sin nature" in an attempt to deflect the blame, consequences, & responsibility of their bad behavior onto someone or something else.
In spite of what many local pastors or tv preachers may have told you, mankind is not born into original sin. Rather, mankind is born into the consequences of original sin. You see, when God created the first man, Adam, God breathed "life" into Adam. The Hebrew word for life used in this context has a dual meaning. Not only does it mean "life" but it can also be translated to mean "spirit, so when scripture states that God breathed life into Adam, one can also correctly assume that God breathed His Spirit into Adam as well. As a result, not only was Adam a living being, he was also a Spirit-filled being whom God both communed & communicated with on a regular basis.
When Adam & Eve committed the original sin, they were cursed to not only die a physical death over time, but they also died a Spiritual death. The spiritual connection that they once possessed with God was now severed, which is why God had to descend from heaven to speak to Adam & Eve, who were actually trying to hide. From that moment onward, every generation of mankind was and still is born into Godlessness, stripped of the very purpose for which God created us in the first place; to be hosts (living temples) of His Presence, the Holy Spirit of God
Without the Spirit of God, all of humanity is destined to not only die a physical death but also a spiritual one, void of and far from the presence of God, which is Hell. That is why it was necessary for Jesus Christ, the perfect man as God intended man to be, to live among us; to not only be a living demonstration of the purpose for which God created man, but also to die a sacrificial death so that the spiritual rift that exists between God and a mankind would be repaired for those who willing repent of their sin & surrender to the presence & will of God.
Which brings me to my original talking point.
We are not a sinners because of something that we were born with; an evil sin nature. Rather, we are sinners because of what we were born without; the Holy Spirit of the Living God. Sin is more than merely breaking God's laws/rules. Sin is essentially all human behavior and activity apart from the will and presence of God. In fact, even our best efforts to be good or to do good within our own human strength and understanding (ie. self righteousness) offends God.
If you are a self-professing Christian who continually loses the daily battle with sin and temptation, you are not sinning because of some imaginary "sin nature" that you can do nothing about. Rather, you are sinning because temptation is a spiritual battle that you can not possibly win apart from abiding/walking in the Spirit of God on a daily basis (Galatians 5:16).
We must stop blaming everything & everyone else and take personal responsibility. We need to realize that humans are utterly powerless to stop sinning within our own human strength and understanding and, as a result, we must seek the provision that Christ himself has prepared for all who believe; abiding in presence (Spirit) of Christ on a daily basis. The second thing we must realize is that should we choose to remain in our sin(s) and not seek out Christ's daily provision, in the eyes of God we are little more than a religious sinner who is likely headed for hell.
