Daily Morning Prayer (5/2/26): from Trinity Anglican Church (Connersville, IN) Psalms 9-11; 1 Kings 8; Acts 28; Metrical Psalm 18:32-36

32,33 'Tis God that girds my armor on, and all my just designs fulfils; Through him my feet can swiftly run, and nimbly climb the steepest hills. 34 Lessons of war from him I take, and manly weapons learn to wield; Strong bows of steel with ease to break, forced by my stronger arms to yield, 35 The buckler of his saving health protects me from assaulting foes; His hand sustains me still, my wealth and greatness from his bounty flows. 36 My goings he enlarged abroad, till then to narrow paths confined; And, when in slipp'ry ways I trod, the method of my steps designed.

After much deliberation, the winning suggestion for the name of our new church ale (brewed by the mission's fellowship of the men) is Whitfire Ale. We will be debuting the brew on the traditional day of Whitsunday (Pentecost). A big thank you to everyone who worked on this, and a joyful feast for all those who celebrate the coming of the Holy Ghost.

Question. Why would God allow his completely innocent Son to suffer such a painful and humiliating death?
Answer: Christ took our place before God. He made himself responsible for us—agreeing to answer for, pay for, and suffer the punishment we owed and deserved. So even though he was completely innocent, he suffered on behalf of us, who are guilty. God placed our burden on him, according to the full demands of justice and the law, so that because of him, God could show mercy to us.
Scripture Reference: Isaiah 53; Rom. 1:3; 2 Cor. 5:31; Gal. 2:4; Eph. 1:3, 7; Col. 1:13-14 and 2:13-14; 1 Peter 3:18 and 4:1; John 3:6; 2 Cor. 15:21

Daily Morning Prayer and the Litany (4/29/26): from Trinity Anglican Church (Connersville, IN) Psalms 139-141; 1 Kings 4; Acts 26; Metrical Psalm 18:25-29

25,26 Thou suit'st, O Lord, thy righteous ways to various paths of human kind; with thee shall wondrous mercy find. They, who for mercy merit praise, Thou to the just shalt justice show, the pure thy purity shah see; Such as perversely choose to go, shall meet with due returns from thee. 27,28 That he the humble soul will save, and crush the haughty's boasted might, In me the Lord an instance gave, whose darkness he has turned to light. 29 On his firm succor I relyed, and did o'er num'rous foes prevail; Nor feared, whilst he was on my side, the best defended walls to scale.

Daily Evening Prayer (4/27/26): from Trinity Anglican Church (Connersville, IN) Psalms 126-131; 1 Kings 1; 1 John 3; Metrical Psalm 18:19-24

19 From dangers that enclosed me round, he brought me forth and set me free; For some just cause his goodness found, that moved him to delight in me. 20 Because in me no guilt remains, God does his gracious help extend; My hands are free from bloody stains, therefore the Lord is still my friend. 21,22 For I his judgments kept in sight, in his just paths I always trod; I never did his statutes slight, nor loosely wandered from my God. 23,24 But still my soul, sincere and pure, did e'en from darling sins refrain; His favors, therefore, yet endure, because my heart and hands are clean.

Audio and text of the Sunday sermon from Trinity Anglican Church:
Link in comments

"Blessedly, when Jesus sees these weak and scared men gathered around Him, He sees so much more than the worst sins of their life. He certainly sees what these men are in their worst moments, but He also sees what these men will become; He knows what great works the Holy Spirit will do through them; He knows the mountains they will climb and the riots they will start; He knows the empires they will tear down and the hearts they will break and remake for the love of the Lord whose name no torture will be able to tear from their lips. As Jesus prays to His heavenly Father in the next chapter, “[My disciples] are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth. I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word…” (St. John 17:16-20). When Jesus looks into the eyes of His apostles, He sees every generation of Christian who will rise from their witness even as the world tries to crush them in its malice and wickedness."
