“And never satisfied are the eyes of man.” Proverbs 27:20

In the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Jones yields to the temptation to reach for the prized holy grail in spite of the risk of death. Seconds earlier he had pleaded with another movie character to forget the prize and escape death but she refused and perished. Jones nearly perished as well as he transitioned from a rescuer to one needing rescuing. Another movie (my favorite) shows Humphrey Bogart as Fred C. Dobbs swearing that he would never become a victim of ‘gold fever’ but would only prospect for gold until he had what he needed then retire. Oh boy, did he ever depict a man transfixed with the lust for more and more of the gold. Check out Treasure Of The Sierra Madre (famous line from the movie… “We don’t need no stinking badges!”).
The characters depicted draw upon human nature to be drawn towards getting ‘stuff’. Getting stuff is not always the problem. The problem is when ‘stuff’ gets us. In the movie ‘Last Crusade’ Jones went from warning someone else of the danger to one needing to be warned. In the other movie the transition was over a long period of time and Bogart’s ‘Fred C. Dobbs is a perfect study of abnormal psychology. His greed, isolation and stress with no moral compass created a man who lost control. Instead of having needs met he traded needs through lust for wants and as Proverbs 27:20 says desires have an insatiable appetite. Without Christ as your Lord the desires of the flesh get on a ‘run-away’ like a locomotive with no brakes and the throttle wide open.
Seek first the Kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33) and keep priorities in check. Keep greed under control, don’t isolate yourself from other Christians and don’t be anxious about life as you put your trust in Christ to provide.

Hello Facebook friends!! I am done with Adobe inDesign. This last month the monthly subscription price went up 44%!! I have kept it this long because I have been using the software since way back when it was called PageMaker.

I need to know what app is out there that behaves much like inDesign. What desktop publishing app are you using that may have a lot of the same attributes?

I am open to change in order to keep mine!! Currently the monthly is over $24. Ridiculous!!

Help! I’ve fallen and I can’t get down!!

I was doing work on of a metal roof when the configuration of ladders I’d set up on the steep 8/12 pitch roof gave way. Contrary to my plans Uncle Gravity decided that the ladder I was depending on for footing near the roof’s peak needed to return to earth.
There are times when you make plans, but they are inadequate for the magnitude and the risk involved with the given task. In the moment that the planning fails and you find yourself hurtling towards injury many thoughts flash through your mind. “This is going to hurt! Help me God! I didn’t expect this!”. Nothing else mattered. Just the way that concrete seemed to be sucking me off the roof and my inability to stop. One does not appreciate the lack of braking capability of ones posterior clad in blue jeans on an 8/12 pitch metal roof until one is sliding towards an industrial strength ‘Ouch!’.
What shocked me was the sudden halt in downward motion at the bottom of some solar panel. I was inches from the eave of the roof. I found myself perched on the roof like some insect pinned inside a bug collection. I was motionless, on my back looking up at a beautiful Wyoming sky! My tool belt had snagged a bolt on the bracing for the solar panels.
My ‘good’ planning almost put me in the need of a call to 911. Something other than my planning stopped me in my tracks. You bet I was giving thanks for divine intervention!! Psalm 107:6 says, “Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.”
What is your distress-level today? Try ‘de-stressing”. Whether because of bad planning or a rebellious heart, call out to the Lord today. And like me on that roof…keep looking up!

Prosperity Gospel
Wednesday, July 2, 2025
(Thank you Jenny L.)
What riches are you looking for in life. Are riches alluring to you? Or are you content with the things you have acquired but dissatisfied with what you look like? Or are you more into climbing the social ladder?
I remember one very meaningful video that really had no dialogue. A mid-20’s guy was presenting himself on social media as far more successful and charming than he really was just for the sake of gaining followers of his account. He became a slave of a device that promised everything but delivered nothing of substance. The point of the video was to show just how empty he truly was inside in spite of the façade of social media.
There is something called ‘the prosperity gospel’ that may also known as the ‘name-it-and-claim-it’ religion. Lots of people fall into the trap of trying to make God into a genie in a bottle. All of these so-called ‘ministries’ over-promise and under-produce. Someone will get more money in their bank account but, unfortunately, it will be at the expense of a lot of ill-informed followers.
Paul writes about riches. Riches and prosperity that can never be taken away. “having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you” (Ephesians 1:18).
This is a word-picture. Our hearts do not have a pair of eyeballs. Eyes represents understanding. It is a way of describing enlightenment or spiritual insight. Not from just being ‘spiritual’ like some people like to say. It is God shining the light in a dark world, revealing himself. Salvation does not come from information; it comes from revelation. The revelation of Jesus Christ as God’s One and Only Son and making him Lord of your life. That brings true prosperity. And you can take that to the bank!

Thanking God here for the ’refresh’ and repair of the Lord’s house. “Better is the end of a thing than its beginning,” Ecclsiastes 7:8
Also thanking God for the people who had the vision to build it 33+ years ago.
The Lord’s people had the vision and God put it n their hearts to do the work. Sometimes parts of the work was done by some who provided a service and sent no bill. Such was the passion then to see the work of providing a place for a community of Christ-followers to meet and minister.
As we continue to cast a vision for this ministry we want to invite you to come join us in the call. Come and be a part of this work in Connell. You won’t find a more loving band of believers anywhere.
Are you feeling broken and needy? Does the world have you down and you feel like tapping out?
Spend Sunday morning with us. Spend life with us! You will be welcomed and loved.
