INTERCESSION IS MORE THAN PRAYER
An intercessor is more than someone who knows how to pray.
Just because you can pray does not automatically make you an intercessor.
Just because you're loud does not make you an intercessor.
Just because you have a certain swag or style when you pray does not make you an intercessor.
Just because you know how to sound powerful does not mean you have been given an assignment to intercede.
Prayer is communication with God.
But intercession is an assignment.
An intercessor is someone who is spiritually equipped and willing to stand in the gap on behalf of another person, purpose, leader, ministry, community, or God-given assignment.
They do not pray only for themselves. They carry the burdens of others and stand before God concerning the people, purposes, and assignments they have been called to cover.
Everybody can pray, but not everybody is called to the watch.
AN INTERCESSOR:
• Prays beyond personal needs.
• Carries the burdens of others.
• Watches and discerns.
• Stands in the gap.
• Provides spiritual covering.
• Prays for people, leaders, ministries, and communities.
• Responds to spiritual burdens.
• Remains faithful even when no one sees the work.
Think about it from a battlefield perspective.
One of the most strategically important positions is the person responsible for communication. That connection is vital because communication opens the door for instruction, direction, reinforcements, supplies, support, and help.
Likewise, an intercessor is a spiritual communication point.
Through intercession, there is communication with Heaven concerning what is happening on the earth. The intercessor receives burdens, seeks divine direction, and stands before God on behalf of the assignment.
That is why the enemy often targets the intercessor.
If the enemy can weaken the intercessor, he attempts to weaken the communication surrounding the assignment.**
THE ENEMY TARGETS YOUR:
• Emotions
• Mind
• Relationships
• Consistency
• Spiritual discipline
The goal is often to make the intercessor so consumed with personal feelings that they neglect the assignment.
A mature intercessor cannot allow emotions to become the primary voice of the assignment.
An intercessor must learn to discern the difference between what they feel and what God is revealing.
You may have the ability to pray, but an intercessor has been given the assignment to stand in the gap.
*Prayer is an ability.
*Intercession is an assignment.
*Volume is not the assignment.
*Swag is not the assignment.
*Performance is not the assignment.
*The burden, the watch, the discernment, and the responsibility to stand in the gap—that is the assignment.
And when God places you on the watch, you must understand that you are not merely talking to God.
*You are standing at a spiritual point of communication for the people, purposes, and assignments God has entrusted to your covering.
*THE WATCH IS AN ASSIGNMENT.
*THE GAP IS A RESPONSIBILITY.
*THE BURDEN IS NOT ALWAYS YOURS, BUT THE ASSIGNMENT TO PRAY MAY BE.
*Everybody can pray, but not everybody is called to the watch.
