We know meeting someone for the first time can be intimidating, and going to a new church for the first time can be nerve-racking. We want to help make your first experience at SOJO Church a great one!

And that’s that. One last Sunday at the building that has shaped us for a move upwards and onwards.

We are so excited to bring Sojo to Gibson Mill, but we took some time for memories yesterday. We had a beautiful testimony from someone who had never stepped foot into our church before, but was transformed by God through us anyways. We had a lot of testimonies and worship. We had a lot of tears and smiles both. We had a lot of family together in an empty building, and it was beautiful.

And next Sunday we will be ready and waiting for you at 325 McGill Ave NW suite 148.

There are absolutely going to be things left behind at Union Street. The rooms that held us. The walls that held worship. A familiarity of sitting in the same seat Sunday after Sunday.

One of the beautiful things we will get to watch unfold is what comes with us. One of them being The Word that we open together. The truth we will plant. The things our children have watched us reach for and open week after week…our BIBLES. God’s promise 💜

We might be closing one chapter, but we will carry the Word with us into the next.

The future isn’t coming. It’s already here.

They’re carrying lumber. They are picking up paintbrushes. Sweeping the floor. Following behind us, asking if they can help. One day they might not even remember helping, but we’ll remember that they were here. These kids aren’t waiting somewhere in the wings to become the Church one day. They belong right beside us now…watching us, learning from us, worshiping with us, serving with us, and putting their own little hands to the work.

We say we’re building for the next generation, but the next generation isn’t some far-off idea. They. Are. Already. Here.

They’re standing in the middle of the construction zone asking, “What can I do?”. So we make room.

Because yes, we’re building a home they’ll inherit. But even better? We get to build it with them.

We’re down to our final days at 848. It’s a lot of emotions…the excitement, the nerves, the hesitancy, the nostalgia.

This week in our series, , we talked about how sojourners were exiled people and God still called them to plant gardens, raise families, and pray. To seek the goodness of right where they are.

We have one more Sunday left before we start tending our new garden at Gibson Mill.
Same people. Same mission. New garden to tend.

This past Saturday, we began. We began taking apart our old house and started laying the layers of our new home.

Over 100 people showed up and showed out. We started the day with worship, which was hauntingly beautiful in a big ol’ empty space. Young kids and old men alike worked side by side. People spent their birthday here, painting walls. A woman days away from birth served on our care team providing food for us. One volunteer had only spent two previous sundays with us, and still strapped up their work boots.

Don’t worry if you missed it! There’s plenty more to do this Saturday, which we are calling The Final Sweep Work Day. There is a link in the Church Center app for signups so our Care Team has a good headcount for lunch! https://sojo.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/3801644
