A Minnesota man has been arrested in the murder of a 31-year-old model who was beaten, bound and stuffed inside the refrigerator of her downtown Los Angeles apartment, police announced Wednesday.

Magnus Daniel Humphrey, 41, who is on probation for federal narcotics offenses, was arrested at his home in Minnesota on an unrelated federal warrant, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Humphrey has agreed to be extradited to Los Angeles to face murder and torture charges stemming from the killing of Maleesa Mooney, police said.

Mooney was found in her apartment on Sept. 12 after her family hadn't heard from her and asked the LAPD to conduct a welfare check. Officers used a key from the building manager to enter her unit and found her body inside the refrigerator, according to a Los Angeles County coroner's report released in October.

Blood was pooling under the refrigerator and her body was found inside, bound with electric cords and clothing. A gag made from clothing was stuffed in her mouth and other items were covering her head.

Blunt force injuries as well as lacerations, abrasions and contusions were found on her face, head, back and upper left arm, according to the report. One rib was fractured.

The report says the blunt force injuries by themselves were not severe enough to have caused her death on their own but they suggest "she was likely involved in violent physical altercation prior to her death."

Her cause of death was determined "homicidal violence" and the report suggests she may have been asphyxiated, although no direct marks from strangulation were observed.

No details were immediately released on what led investigators to Humphrey.

St. Louis/Ferguson Missouri Mother Waxes Her 4 Children The father of two of the four children killed in a Missouri house fire that was deemed a murder-suicide is speaking out and called his children the “greatest gift” that he could’ve asked for.
“They were the two most beautiful souls that a father could ask for, and they were a gift to our lives in every way,” Jared Spader said of his children Jackson, 6, and Millie, 2, in a statement to FOX 2 Now.

Jackson and Millie Spader were killed along with their sisters Ivy and Ellie Pruessner, both 9, and their mother, Bernadine Pruessner, 39, who police say intentionally started the fire in their Ferguson home.

"Preliminary investigation has revealed this to be a murder/suicide," the St. Louis County Police Department told PEOPLE in a statement. "It is believed that Bernadine intentionally set a mattress on fire as that was the point of origin for the fire. A note was also left stating Bernadine’s intentions to take her life and the lives of her children."

In his statement to Fox 2 Now, Jared Spader said he was focused on honoring his children.

“Jackson was the most incredible older brother, kind, intuitive and gentle,” Spader said, per the outlet. “He loved his sisters, being outside, sports, art and he was always so in tune with the needs of others. Millie was a funny, charismatic, sweet, and kind little sister who brightened every moment of every day for all of us.”

Spader’s brother started a GoFundMe to raise money for a memorial service for children killed in the fire. It has raised nearly $50,000.

A service for the four children will be held Friday at a church in Chesterfield, Mo. Court records indicate that Bernadine had been engaged in custody battles with the two fathers of her children.
