These 28 women were celebrated as Bold Women of St. John’s Lutheran Church during How Firm is Our Foundation Day, August 21st. May we all serve according to our talents and may God richly bless all women who have served and will continue to serve as dedicated and faithful bold women.

God bless you. Let us go forth and serve the Lord boldly!

A Heritage display in the Narthex about ADOLPH NUSSMANN kicks off Foundation Month at St. John's on August 7th.

Adolph Nussmann was the first Lutheran Pastor in North Carolina. He traveled over the state from the mountains to the Haw River in the Eastern part of NC ministering to many Lutherans. He served his first year at Organ Lutheran before moving closer to St. John’s.
You many not know that Rev. Nussmann was a Patriot. He supported the cause of the Revolution and suffered torture at the hands of the Tories. It is believed that he died from cancer at the point he had been branded by the Tories on his neck. Rev. Nussmann is buried in St. John's cemetery with a marker similar to the larger monument to him in 1935.

On August 21, HERITAGE DAY, Adolph Nussmann’s original tombstone, hand written constitution and his baptismal certificate, all written in German, will be on display in the Heritage Center.

TREASURE OF A GOOD FOUNDATION
Without a solid foundation, no building will stand for very long. Buildings can come and go, but if the foundation is good, it is always possible to rebuild upon it no matter what happened to the building. A good foundation is truly a treasure. During the months of August and September we will mine the lectionary scriptures for treasures of a good foundation.
First, we must remember that all churches build on the same foundation. That foundation is our faith in God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Where a church is not built on that foundation or is moved off that foundation, it will not stand long.

During August, we are going to celebrate the TREASURE OF THE FOUNDATION upon which St. John’s Lutheran Church was built 277 years ago. JOIN US for special historical events and messages during August.
