The Lord Is Still Able

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” Ephesians 3:20

There are times in life when we need to be reminded of some great spiritual truths. There are some things that the Lord is still doing.

• He still speaks.

• He still saves.

• He still supplies.

• He still seeks.

• He still satisfies.

• He still shoulders our burdens.

• He still strengthens.

• He still shelters.

• He still secures.

• He still shuts and opens doors.

• He still sets free.

• He still sanctifies.

• He still sustains.

And so much the more!

Whether we are high on the highest mountain or low in the lowest valley, He is still able.

Whether we are in the ebb or flow of life, He is still able.

Whether we are at a crossroads or at our wit’s end, He is still able.

So, wherever we may be or whatever we may be dealing with today, our Lord is still able. Let us look to Him in faith and lean upon His grace for the journey ahead.

Have a “mountain top moment” kind of day!

Where Do I Fit In?

“I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.” Ezekiel 34:16

Every local church has a purpose for being planted and placed in a geographical location in every town. Within every local church, there is a place for every individual to find in order to fulfill their purpose in the ministry of that local church.

When we read this verse, there are several things we discover that we all can do through the ministry in our church.

• We must seek that which was lost.

“I will seek that which was lost,”

This indicates to us that the church is to be a hospital for sinners instead of being a hotel for saints. Are we a part of the outreach of our church? Why not?

• We must seek the wayward.

“…and bring again that which was driven away,”

Every church has those who have drifted and have possibly been driven away for whatever reason. Just like the lost sheep or the lost coin in Luke 15, we must keep looking until we find them.

• We must seek the wounded.

“…and will bind up that which was broken,”

We live in a world of broken things. Broken hearts, broken homes, and broken hopes. We cannot allow the broken to go unattended. We must be ready to minister grace and mercy in their hearts.

• We must seek the weary.

“…and will strengthen that which was sick;”

We are admonished in the Bible to be ready to consider ourselves as we minister to the weary-hearted because it may be us the next time.

So, the next time we think there is nothing for us to do, let us consider seeking the lost, the wayward, the wounded, and the weary. We will be amazed at how much we can learn and accomplish when we find the place where we fit in.

Let us seek to be a restorer, an encourager, and a blessing in the ministry of our local church.

Have a “finding a place and fulfilling a purpose” kind of day!

The God of All Comfort

“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;” II Corinthians 1:3

The word “comfort” is the same word for exhortation, entreaty, and encouragement. All three of these terms are interchangeable and woven together for the benefit of every believer.

The God who created us is the same God who comforts us. The God who allows us to hurt is the same God who heals us. The God who orders our steps is the same God who orders our starts as well as our stops.

Let us take a moment to mention a few things that the God of all comfort will use to comfort us.

• We have the comfort of the Scripture.

“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” (Romans 15:4)

We have the privilege to hold and hear and hide the Word of God. It is the Word of God that will comfort our hearts when troubled times come.

• We have the comfort of the Spirit.

“Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.” (John 16:7)

We have the honor of hosting the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit. He is ever present to comfort our hearts when fearful times come.

• We have the comfort of the soon coming of Jesus Christ.

“Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” (I Thessalonians 4:18)

We have the expectation of the day when God calls His children home. We know that at any moment of any hour the call will come, and we will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air to forever be with Him. What a day that will be! This should comfort our hearts when we see the end drawing near.

So, let us take time to find comfort today in these three main areas that our God has provided for His children.

Have a “comforted” kind of day!

Some Things We Can Know

“Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;” Ecclesiastes 12:1

There are three universal questions that are most commonly asked among people often searching for the answer. The answer to these very interesting and important questions are found in the Bible.

(1) Where did I come from?

“Remember now thy Creator….” (verse 1)

We all have the same Creator! He has made us, He has molded us, and He has materialized us. God has given us our life.

We must never think that our existence is an accident or a mess-up or a mistake. We have been created in the very image of God. We all are uniquely fashioned and framed and formed by the creating hand of our Creator.

There is only one you!

(2) Why am I here?

“…in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;” (verse 1)

Our days are made up of the decisions we make. It will be the decisions we make that will determine our destiny.

Therefore, let us not waste our days on trivial and temporal things that have no eternal value.

Life is too short to fret and fuss. It is too short to squander the opportunities afforded us to live and to love and to laugh.

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter; Fear God, and keep his commandments : for this is the whole duty of man” (verse 13)

(3) Where am I going when I die?

“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” (verse 7)

There are only two times that we should give our utmost attention to. We find in verse one the word “now.” This emphasizes this moment and this day. And in verse seven, we see the word “then.” This emphasizes the moment when our time on earth is over.

The only way to heaven is by trusting the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Savior. The only way to hell is by rejecting the gift of salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ. Because the choice is ours to make, let us therefore make sure that we leave no doubt where we will spend eternity.

We are not ready to live until we are ready to die.

Have a “without doubt” kind of day! command

Unprepared and Unplanned

“For they could not keep it at that time, because the priests had not sanctified themselves sufficiently, neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem.” II Chronicles 30:3

King Hezekiah had sent out a post stating that everyone was to come to the house of the Lord at Jerusalem in order to keep the Passover.

But they ran into a major issue. The issue was that the priests who were to lead the service had not prepared themselves, nor did the people include in their plans to attend the meeting.

So, instead of going through the motions just to be able to say, “We got it done,” they postponed their meeting. Then King Hezekiah sent out another post with a letter stating that it would benefit everyone if they all would turn back to the Lord.

One of the great sins of our day is when the preachers who are called to lead and feed are unprepared to do so and when the people have (what they assume) something of more importance and interest to do than to attend the meeting.

This kind of attitude toward the things of the Lord is how we can lose a generation of young people. They are being taught that as long as they are happy and having fun doing what they want to do, then it does not matter if we have to fake it or even forsake it.

Hezekiah said, “Ye children of Israel, turn again unto the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria. And be not ye like your fathers, and like your brethren, which trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to desolation, as ye see. Now be ye not stiffnecked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves unto the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he hath sanctified for ever: and serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you. For if ye turn again unto the LORD, your brethren and your children shall find compassion before them that lead them captive, so that they shall come again into this land: for the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him” (verses 6-9).

May the Lord help us to return to where the preachers are sanctified and prepared and the people schedule in their plans to faithfully attend the meetings.

Have a “preparing and planning” kind of day!

Filling Up

“Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us. Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.” Acts 5:28-29

As we read this account, the religious leaders would not even mention the name of Jesus. They referred to Him as “this name” or “this man.” It has been this name, the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, that has been despised down through the ages.

Yet these disciples were not ashamed of the name of Jesus. They were gladly beaten and bloodied because of His name. Why, one time, they even left the jail rejoicing that they had been counted worthy to suffer for His name.

They boldly said, “We ought to obey God rather than men.”

In their obedience, we notice the fruit that was evident in their actions. Back in verse 28, we read “…behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine.” What they were saying was because of their obedience to God and their faithfulness to spread their faith along with the teachings of Jesus Christ, Jerusalem was full of their faith. They accused them of not only being stirred up about what they believed but also stirring up others.

Would it not be a grand and glorious thing to have someone say to a local church and the Christians who attend that church, “You have filled up our town with your doctrine”?

May we therefore strive to busy about filling our city with the name of Jesus and His Word.

Have a “filling up our town” kind of day!
