Pastor Jim passed along something on Sunday that his mentor used to say. He said he’d heard it a thousand times:

“Two days on his calendar. Today and that day. That day, the day you stand before God and give an account for everything.”

The “his” is the apostle Paul. Paul lived every day with two dates in view: the one in front of him, and the day he would stand before Jesus.

That can sound heavy. But Pastor Jim was careful to say what that day is not. For those who belong to Jesus, it isn’t a day of terror. Our salvation isn’t up for grabs. Jesus already paid for it, and He’s a foundation that won’t crumble.

What that day does is make today matter. The time you give, the kindness nobody sees, the gift you’ve been sitting on. None of it is small, because all of it is headed somewhere.

And it starts with gratitude. People who know everything they have came from God don’t walk around feeling owed. They’re free to give it back.

So live today with that day in view. Not dreading it. Looking forward to it.

A young couple carried their baby girl to the front on Sunday morning. In front of the church and before the Lord, they promised to raise her toward Jesus.

Pastor Jim used that moment to say the part most of us would rather skip. If God someday calls that little girl to the other side of the world, her parents don't get to say, "Oh no, we didn't mean that. We wanted You to bless her. We didn't want You to have her." Then he said:

"You don't get that with the Lord. You get Him. He gets you. All of you."

Most of us want the blessing without the having. We'll gladly give God Sunday morning and part of Wednesday night, and we quietly keep a few doors locked. Maybe it's the calendar, or the bank account, or the plans we haven't told anybody about yet.

But nobody walked a hair bow up to the front on Sunday to stand in for that baby. They brought the whole child. That's how Jesus came for us, too. He didn't hold back part of Himself to keep it safe. He gave all of it at the cross to make us His.

He isn't asking for your leftovers. He's asking for you, because He already gave everything to get you.

So whatever you've been holding back this week, you can open that door. It's safer in His hands than it ever was in yours.
