Morah Laura teaches our ASL elective, open to 3rd-6th graders. She's a licensed social worker who's worked in ASL with the Deaf community for over 30 years, and she's been part of the Kerem Shalom community for about 18 years, teaching here for four of them.

She says she's most excited to be back with students and families and working with LilyFish. She also has two bearded dragons at home.

This is Morah Jill's fifth year teaching our Visual Arts elective, open to 3rd-6th graders. She's also a professional painter represented by Three Stones Gallery in Concord. Writer Thomas Moore once described her work as "not a painting of, but a peek into."

Her first job out of college was teaching art at a Jewish summer camp — she's been at this a long time. She says she's looking forward to "the surprising things that kids say and create."

Before food, Morah Hila was a fashion designer. Now she's in her fourth year teaching our Cooking elective, one of the choices open to 3rd-6th graders, connecting children to Jewish and Levantine food traditions one recipe at a time.

Born and raised in Israel, she founded Sweet Tahini and now runs Over a Meal. She wants students to leave class realizing "the recipes they make in class are part of a much larger story."

Morah Julia is new to Kerem Shalom this year, teaching Hebrew letter recognition to our 3rd and 4th graders and launching Debate, a brand-new elective for 3rd-6th graders. She's a junior at Brandeis University studying Near Eastern Judaic Studies and Psychology, grew up at a post-denominational synagogue in NYC, and—fun fact—is a classically trained singer.

By day, Morah Anna teaches middle school English. At Kerem Shalom, now in her second year, she teaches Torah stories to Kitot Alef and Bet, plus Judaics and Jewish values for Kitah Aleph.

"I'm excited to create a classroom community of excited learners focused on Jewish stories and values," she said — and if you ask her, she'll tell you crafting is her love language in the classroom.
