This is from my loving wife Faith Farley, posted last night; “My dear friends, without going into much detail, I would like to share with you that Alan’s race is nearly run. Truly only our great and loving God knows the time of our departure and we rest in that. The doctor has told us the time is now to summon our family. Please pray for Chris , Katherine , and our grandchildren as they fly home tomorrow from CA. Please continue to lift the rest of us as we spend time together and make arrangements for the inevitable. God is faithful beyond comparison and his love for us is everlasting and for that we are eternally grateful. ♥️”

Defibrillator/pacemaker  surgery went well. Very sore. Having trouble getting the diuretic to stop dropping my blood pressure. The diuretics tend to make the blood pressure run low which affects the creatinine level of the kidney and causes fluid retention. They will probably keep me at least through tomorrow and maybe on Monday to try and get a good balance between to two. The D/P has already registered working twice while I was sleeping.

RANT: I am so aggravated at all these blasted advertisements on FakeBook. I am willing to guess that better than 80% of my morning feed is nothing but ads and most from China. I’ve tried the “copy and paste” this thingies but they are a joke. I’m fed up

Just got the word, our release process from UVA will be started and by God’s grace we could be headed home after lunch. Hallelujah.

Here is the latest. The cardiologist was in and told me that I do have coronary heart failure. For several reasons nothing can be done to correct it except for medication and exercise. It is possible to increase my heart function back to 45% but it will require hard work and the Lord.

Three of the four medications they would normally put someone on are harmful to the kidney. A pump is not an alternative at this point because of the exposed wire, and the chance of infection which could harm the kidney. 

The GI doctor also reported their findings from the EGD. There were 2 restrictions found at the top of the esophagus, which they corrected with a balloon procedure without tearing the lining and took biopsies. The suspected restriction at the bottom of the stomach and the connection to the small intestine was an error in the x-ray, and that was clear. There was, though, an accumulation of food and medication from 14 hours earlier, which shows there is a digestion problem, which has to be addressed. The medication they would put me on to take care of that works adversely with the kidney.

At this point, they know many of the issues, and there are now going to brainstorm to try to come up with procedures or medication’s to correct the abnormalities.

All of this is going to necessitate some lifestyle changes, mainly the way I eat, and what I eat, so that the food can be properly digested. 

By God gracious hand, and is ever loving mercy we are going to be out of here, and making strives to be at our first event in February and going forward for the Lord

We are hoping to be released on Saturday at some point.

Just received word they should be taking me to do the EGD procedure very soon. Prayerfully they will be able to take care of the restricted area where the stomach and the small intestines meet. Will update when we know anything more.

By God‘s good graces and his tremendous hand of mercy, the Gastro department is going to do my GED on Friday. This is such a huge blessing. Depending upon what they find and are able to correct it might take care of another big issue I’ve had for over a month. Thank you so much for your continued prayers.

I almost feel like I’m getting my hundred thousand mile refit. BTW our Silverado truck is in the shop and has to have a fuel pump, oil sending unit and a radiator. What a way to start 2024.

***Update 1/09/2024***
The cardiologist and nephrology team were in this morning and they gave us the lowdown. The Cardiac stress MRI yesterday showed that the main artery on the left side of the heart shows a slowdown and flow. They will, today, do a catheterization to find out where that restriction is , if it is in the artery itself or where the bypass was attached and make a determination if they can fix it with a stent. The main concern of the cardiologist is the contrast that has to be used can cause damage to the kidney which might be severe enough to necessitate dialysis. 

Secondly, we got the results back from the barium, swallow test, and it shows that where my stomach and small intestines are connected there is a restriction, so a GED will be scheduled after the catheterization. It is possible that the connected area can be stretched and enlarged so that it will work properly.

We have been here since last Wednesday and it appears will be here till at least the end of the week. Thank you again for all your prayers and your continued prayers support.
