A POWERFUL ACT OF KINDNESS | As the Calhoun Schools High School volleyball team traveled home from a match Thursday night, the players came upon a serious motorcycle crash on Highway 27 in Bremen.

The team got off their bus, gathered near the scene and prayed for 20-year-old motorcyclist Jordan Swan. Jordan's family tells me he remains hospitalized and has several more surgeries ahead of him.

His family wanted to recognize these young women for stopping during such a frightening moment and surrounding Jordan with prayer.

Decades after spending eight years in a Soviet labor camp for criticizing Stalin in a private letter, Alexander Solzhenitsyn wrote:
“Bless you prison, bless you for being in my life. For there, lying upon the rotting prison straw, I came to realize that the object of life is not prosperity as we are made to believe, but the maturity of the human soul.”

This quote is from C.S. Lewis’s book God in the Dock which was first published in October 1970. Because it is a collection of essays and letters written by Lewis between 1940 and 1963, it was actually published posthumously (after his death in 1963). The collection was compiled and edited by Walter Hooper, who served as Lewis’s private secretary.
