The Apostle Paul prayed for the churches he served. He prayed for grace, love, strength, and that they would bear much fruit. Join us as we pray these same prayers for Plainfield Christian Church.

The letter to the Ephesians closes with the second part of the “household code” which began in chapter five and continues through equipping God’s people with the armor of God. Paul knew the threats to Church unity, both inside and outside the community of believers. He saw soldiers who had sharp swords and strong leather armor, which enabled them to accomplish their work. The only way followers of Jesus could fulfill their God given purpose was through the weaponry and armor God provided. Instead of relying on brute physical force to fix things, they needed to rely on truth, the Word of God, the indwelling Spirit of God, all founded on His truth and peace. These same implements will enable the Church today to embrace their God given identity and purpose together.

Sermon:
Redeeming Family
A Family Divided
Scripture:
Genesis 25:19-34; 27:1-46
Romans 12:17-18

Notes:

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is
right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it
depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”

Romans 12:17-18

Description:
God fulfilled His promise to Abraham and a son was born, named Isaac. This young man and
his wife shared the same issue as his parents, they had no children.
Isaac prayed to God for his wife Rebekah and the answer? Twins! These two boys wrestled in
her womb and for forty years they were at odds. As a result of scheming, ambition and four
decades of parents playing favorites, the family was split and driven apart.
This divide wasn’t the end of their story, as God was able to reshape the son’s hearts over
twenty years. The tragedy is that it could have been different, as our own stories could be
different too.
Though the family was marked with strife and conflict, God redeemed them and through Jacob
brought about the twelve tribes of Israel.

1.) REFUSE TO RETALIATE
Do not repay anyone evil for evil.
Throw cool water on the fire, not more gas.

2.) OFFER PEACE
“As far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.”
You cannot control someone else’s response, but you can
choose humility, openness and peace.
