SPOONS…the persimmon says spoons
As the crisp autumn air settles in and the last of the harvest is gathered, a unique and long-held folk tradition emerges in the rural parts of the United States…the use of persimmon seeds to predict the severity of the coming winter. For generations, farmers and weather enthusiasts alike have sworn by the persimmon seed, believing that the shape of the embryo inside a sliced persimmon seed holds the key to foretelling whether the winter will be mild, harsh, or full of snow.

From a scientific perspective, there is no evidence to suggest that the shape of a persimmon seed can predict the weather. The shape of the embryo is determined by the genetics of the specific persimmon tree, the growing conditions of that particular fruit, and the natural development of the seed itself.
