Merry Meet All! It's time for Lord Peregrine's Full Moon Insights.
May Moon
The Dyad Moon
May 31, 2026
Dear Ones,
The full moon this month occurs on Sunday, May 31st at 4:45am, on the East Coast and 1:45 am on the West Coast. Celebrating on Saturday May 30th or Sunday the 31st is entirely appropriate. The sun is in Gemini, and the moon is in Sagittarius. This moon is known as the Dyad Moon in many pagan traditions and the Moon of the Corn in many Native American traditions.
“Dyad” means “pair.” This reminds us to look at both sides of the story, but it also reminds us of the duality found in nature: dark and light, male and female, active and passive.
Nine years ago, I mentioned how the Joni Mitchell song, popularized by Judy Collins, “Both Sides Now,” was relevant to this moon:
Moons and Junes and ferries wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all…
Rather than being a cynical song of disillusionment with love, I thought at the time, that this song should remind us in its own way to see things from two sides if we are to really try to appreciate the complexity of living. There are two sides to everything. That’s what Gemini teaches us. But Sagittarius, ah! That’s another matter. The Sagittarius energy of this moon teaches us that inwardly, we can explore and be adventurous. In the dark, we imagine journeys, but in the light (i.e., the “Sun sign”) we might temper that impulsiveness with careful thought and consideration.
What illusions should we indulge in, but in the end, treat as realities we want to manifest in the real constraints we face?
I’d invite you to join me in meditating on the “crazy” heartfelt visions you have for yourself—do not discount those—while at the same time, imagining the pros and cons of that vision and even the practical steps overcome barriers to achieving them.
There is a Japanese proverb that, paraphrased, says something like, “Vision without action is a daydream; action without vision is a nightmare.”
The energy of Sagittarius helps us dare to dream our dreams; the thoughtful consideration of Gemini can help us to realize them with thoughtfulness and practicality.
I wish you the brightest blessings of Midsummer!
