It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rev. Elizabeth Amburgy, a faithful minister and servant of Jesus Christ.
We honor her years of faithful service and the lasting impact he made on the Church of God in Ohio and the lives of those she served. Our prayers are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” — Philippians 1:21
We grieve her passing, but we rejoice in the hope of seeing her again.
Elizabeth Amburgy, age 90 of Fairfield, passed away at Majestic Care Center on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Elizabeth was born in Breathitt Co., Kentucky on June 4, 1936 to Wilson D. and Louise (nee Terry) Turner. Elizabeth spent her early years in Austin, IN and moved to South Lebanon, OH before high school. She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1955. On July 17, 1955, she married Virgil Amburgy. They served in ministry together at Fairfield Church of God, Princeton Pike Church of God and Stratford Heights Church of God. In the 1980’s, Liz began working as a Mary Kay Cosmetics Consultant and eventually became a Director.
Elizabeth is survived by her sons, Lanny Amburgy and Gregory Amburgy; her grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth (Tommy) Marks and Adam (Jillian) Amburgy; her great-grandchildren, William “Liam” and Elizabeth “Ellie” Marks; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Amburgy; her siblings, Wilson (the late Beverly) Turner Jr. and Vernon (Sharon) Turner; her in-laws, Linda Grooms and Bob Amburgy; and many other loving family members and friends. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson D. and Louise Turner; her husband of 61 years, Virgil Amburgy; her siblings, Kathleen Darrin, Jack Turner, and Imogene Ross; and her in-laws, Willard, Russell and Earl Amburgy, Jean Souther, Ona Shaw, Ina Taylor, Sue Johnson, Eula Dare, and Rose Bailey.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Stratford Heights Church of God, 4419 Nelson Road, Middletown, Ohio, 45042. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM with Pastor Ray Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
