Humble enough to see the need. Brave enough to do something about it.

That is the challenge Pastor Josh Franks gave our church as we ask what it would take to reach our neighbors. Seeing the need takes humility, because it means slowing down and noticing what is right in front of us. Acting on it takes bravery, because it costs us time and comfort. Take a minute today and ask yourself both questions honestly.

How to reach your neighbors with the Good Samaritan story: what if the people next door are more open to God than you think?

In this message from Josh Franks at First Alliance Church in Columbus, we walk through Luke 10:25-37 and ask a simple question: what would it take to reach our neighbors? The priest and the temple assistant both saw a hurting man and passed by. The Samaritan saw the need, felt compassion, and did something about it.

Recent research for our part of Northwest Columbus shows what neighbors are facing: fear of the future, loneliness, heavy loads, strained families, and a lack of trust in church. But it also shows that two in three people are open to learning more about God or Jesus, and 70% would respond positively to an invite from a trusted friend.

The challenge is as easy as one, two, three: one day of fasting each week, two prayer walks, and three neighbors to pray for by name. Be humble enough to see the need. Be brave enough to do something about it.

Want to know what keeps a church strong for generations? First Alliance Church has been part of Columbus for 129 years. Through every move, building and change, one thing has stayed the same: a commitment to the message of Jesus only, Jesus ever, Jesus all in all. Buildings change and seasons change, but He does not. This morning we asked the question, "what will it take to reach out neighbors?" This challenge is our first step to see what God might do through our prayer and faithfulness!

Before you go to bed tonight, carve time out on the calendar for the following:
1. What day will you fast this week? Will you fast from food, or something else? How will you spend that time?
2. When will you go on your prayer walks? How will you stay present to what the spirit is saying to you?
3. How will you begin to identify 3 of your neighbors by name? How can you pray for them?

Who has God placed on your heart? 🤍

Sometimes it's not just one person. It's a whole group of people. Your coworkers. A community that has felt rejected or overlooked, even by the church. A people group across the world who has never heard the name of Jesus.

That burden you can't shake isn't random. It may be God's invitation for you to be a point of light, a living message of hope to the very people He's put in front of you.

"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people." (Matthew 4:19)

So ask yourself: who are your people? And what's one step you can take this week to show them His love? 💬
