You Too Can Start Afresh

Feelings of excitement always accompany the advent of a new year. Many of us make new year resolutions. There’s nothing wrong with that, but most often, we are unable to keep or sustain it.

I read about a gym that brings in new equipment on January 1 every year. For this reason, the gym is always packed full. However, by January 7 they move out all extra equipment because most people have given up their new year resolution, and the club returns to normal.

Have you returned to ‘normal’? You shouldn’t. You cannot.

I love the Word of God. . . It gives hope for every situation or circumstance. And not only hope, it empowers, it enlightens, it instructs, it guides, and reproves.

“ In the beginning God” are the first four letters in the Bible. It is remarkable that the beginning is not tied to a year, a month, a week, or a day. It is tied to GOD! To me it suggests that:

- GOD remains the only significant and constant factor in any new venture- losing weight, starting a business, a challenge to read the Bible in one year, getting married, going to school, a new semester at school. The list goes on.

- Each day, month or year is an opportunity for a fresh start.

- You need to identify your motivation for starting a new venture. This will answer the question- why, what, how? If you’re able to see God at the center of what you plan to do, you need to constantly go to Him for guidance and help. When He provides guidance make sure you acknowledge it and apply it.

“For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.”
Romans‬ ‭11:36‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:31‬ ‭NLT‬‬

You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. He lives inside of you. Tap into his grace within you. Start afresh. Don’t give in and don’t give up.

HOPE

Happy New Year!
In February? I hear some people say in their mind. . . your new experience starts when you come to that awareness. It can start anytime, any day, any moment. The mercies of God are new EVERYDAY. Therefore discover and own ‘your new’ whenever.

A common saying goes thus “when there’s life there’s hope”. Really?

What is hope?
Hope is the feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing.
Hope keeps us alive. It keeps us expectant, it keeps us from giving up. Hope fuels our interests and passion. When hope dies, there can’t be any drive, desire, longing or expectation. A man ceases to live, the moment he stops hoping. In my opinion, it is more accurate to say:
“when there’s hope there’s life”

Also, where and in whom we place our hope is extremely important. If hope is placed on a wrong belief, idea or person, it will bring disappointment. The foundation of hope must be rested on unshakable and unrelenting truth. Only one Person qualifies for that - JESUS CHRIST- He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Hope placed in Him can never disappoint!

“He has brought us by faith into this experience of God's grace, in which we now live. And so we boast of the hope we have of sharing God's glory! We also boast of our troubles, because we know that trouble produces endurance, endurance brings God's approval, and his approval creates hope. This hope does not disappoint us, for God has poured out his love into our hearts by means of the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to us.” Romans‬ ‭5:2-5‬ ‭GNB‬‬

I challenge you to examine, reflect and evaluate where you place your hope. Is your hope premised on self - your experience, your knowledge, your profession, your spouse, your possession? Or is it based on human ideology? Any expectation that does not align with TRUTH is bound to fail. It is ephemeral.
Why not take a decision to place your hope in the only one who is the Source of ALL things. He guarantees the fulfillment of all your expectations:
“For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭23:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Even if your hope in Him has dimmed due to whatever reason, you can renew it NOW. The mercies of God has been renewed over you and your household today, enjoy it!
