Subject: 2018 Columbus Pride Parade June 15-17 Bicentennial /Genoa Park

Hello fellow UCC sisters and brothers -

Please announce to your congregations that it is time to start planning to make our presence even BIGGER and BETTER than last year!

In 2017 we had four planners and lots of participants.
In 2018, we would like to see more planners, thinkers and lots of participants to get involved.

Also we would like each church to have a leader as point of contact.

Our first organizational meeting will be:

Wednesday, March 14, 2018 6:00pm
St. Johns UCC
59 E. Mound St
Columbus, OH

Peace & Blessings!

Good morning! We are just about 1 week away from Pride 2016 and we are ready!

I wanted to send you some details about the parade and our marching group. Please share this email with any and all participants with our group so that everyone has the details-

There are many changes this year because the parade is starting 30 minutes earlier at 10:30 AM - Also the main step off is on W. Broad Street near COSI and the former Veteran's Memorial.

1) T- Shirts/ Apparel - If you ordered a new UCC Pride shirt - they will be at St. John's UCC that AM - you may change at the church before we leave. If you don't have a shirt please wear a pink or purple shirt and we will give you a sticker to put on your shirt to unify our appearance.

Please watch the weather forecast and dress for the temperature! Comfortable shoes and sunscreen are a must!

2) Float Set-Up. We will construct the float at St. John's UCC beginning a 7:30am.- The truck and float need to leave St. John's by 8:30am to go to the line up on West Broad Street. If you are handicapped and need to ride on the float you need to be there by 8:30am.
Finalization of the decorations for the float will be done in the staging area from 9:30 to 10:30.

3) Breakfast- St. John's will be serving breakfast (a free-will offering will be collected) beginning at 8 am to 9:30am --

4) Marchers- we will leave St. John's at 9:30am SHARP as a group to walk to the COSI area to wait for the parade.

5) Parking is available at St. John's or you may choose to pay for a parking space at COSI to be closer to the staging area (plan on $10 for the day if you plan to park at COSI)- There is no ride provided back to St. John's or COSI- you may use the CBUS free shuttle bus service on High Street or a taxi or UBER. You may want to use a buddy system and have someone in your group park near Goodale Park and one person park at St. Johns.

6) How long will we wait??? The short answer is we do not know! The parade is LARGE and we may have to wait some time until we begin to march. You may want to pack a snack to eat just in case. The march itselt is 1.8 miles and takes about 60 to 90 minutes. Bring your good attitude and your patience. They will have porta-johns in the staging area for restrooms.

7) Handouts- we have some bracelets and hand outs to give spectators along the route. Stonewall Columbus has asked us to please not throw anything into the crowd as it may just create litter. Please hand items to people directly.

At the request of several of our members, below is the liturgy that we used before we left for Saturday's parade. Thanks to Rachael for leading us in this prayer from "The Contour of Grace: Sacraments, Covenants, and Pride Services." (Unison portions are in quotes.)

Loving Spirit of all that is true and of all that is calm and warm, join us here in this sacred place as we celebrate the love and life you have created in us and that you are do present in.

Lord, with your love,
"Receive our prayer."

Let us rejoice in ourselves today, sweet God. Allow us the comfort of knowing that we are exactly the way you have created us to be, and are becoming exactly what you want. Be with us as we continue to surrender ourselves to your love and live in a world that harbors so much fear. God we invite you to be an active presence in each one of us as our commitment grows stronger towards a healthy, whole, confident way of loving you.

Lord, with your love,
"Receive our prayer."

Enflame our entire community, dear God, and be the force that drives us to honesty, clarity, commitment, and truth. Clear our ears so that together we may hear your call to unite. Be with us as we strive to create a world that is safe for closet doors to open everywhere, and for the spirited and lovely to emerge.

Lord, with your love,
"Receive our prayer."

In you Lord, we entrust our fears. Today we ask you to move bleakness to beauty and our insincerity to empowerment. We turn our lives over to you in all ways, and are assured that in all ways your will shall prevail. Tank you for leading us to a point in our lives where we can feel safe, secure, and strong within ourselves, with those we love, and with you. We thank you for the spirit that moves within us and our breaths out of us so that we may touch others deeply in our commitment to you and your profound love.

"Amen."
