Welcome to St. Catharine, Father Petros!
We are excited to welcome Father Tesfaye Petros Botachew to our parish family! Father Petros will be in residence at St. Catharine while he serves as the Director of Multicultural Ministries for the Diocese of Columbus. He will also be regularly assisting with the celebration of Mass and hearing confessions
A priest of the Apostolic Vicariate of Gambella, Ethiopia, as Director of Multicultural Ministries, Fr. Petros helps to strengthen the bonds of faith among the many cultures that make up our local Church. His joyful spirit, love for the priesthood, and commitment to building a welcoming Church have already blessed countless people throughout our diocese.
In recent years a growing number of ethnic communities have settled in the diocese. African communities present include natives of western countries Cameroon, Congo, Ghana, Nigeria and Togo; and natives of Swahili-speaking East African countries Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. Asian communities include Filipinos, Indians, Koreans and Vietnamese. Brazilian and Haitian communities are present as well.
Five Eastern Catholic churches, each with its own bishop, are also present in the diocese: Melkite; Eritrean; Byzantine, or Greek, Ruthenian; Maronite; and Syro-Malabar.
If you see Father Petros around campus or after Mass, be sure to introduce yourself and offer him a warm St. Catharine welcome! Please also keep him in your prayers as he begins this new chapter of ministry with our parish family.
Welcome, Father Petros! We're grateful the Lord has brought you to St. Catharine.
