Yesterday, Bishop Earl K. Fernandes celebrated Mass at St. Mary Church in Chillicothe to install Fr. Sean Dooley as pastor of Our Lady, Queen of the Apostles Parish. Msgr. Frank Lane, Fr. Leo Connolly, Fr. Stanislaus John, SAC, Fr. Michael Hartge, Fr. Bill Hahn, and Fr. Sean Dooley concelebrated, and Deacon Reed Hauser and seminarian Matthew Waldman assisted. The Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart presented the gifts for consecration to Bishop Fernandes.

At the end of the Mass, Bishop Fernandes presented a framed Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice award to Msgr. Frank Lane. This is the highest award that can be presented to a clergyman or layperson by the Holy See. It was officially presented to Msgr. Lane by His Eminence Christophe Cardinal Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, at the Pontifical College Josephinum Good Shepherd Dinner on April 20, 2026.

Please join us in congratulating and praying for Fr. Dooley as he begins this new assignment in Chillicothe and Waverly!

This Sunday, I invite you to ponder how God calls you by name to serve generously in proclaiming His Kingdom.

Here is my reflection on the Gospel for the 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time.

“Actions speak louder than words; let your words teach and your actions speak.” St. Anthony of Padua (1195-1231)

Mostly famously known as the patron saint of lost items, St. Anthony was also a gifted speaker and doctor of the church. Originally a member of the Augustinian Monks of Coimbra, Anthony transferred to the Franciscan order when the relics of the first Franciscan martyrs were brought to Portugal. He became a famous preacher throughout Italy and France after delivering a homily during a priestly ordination when no one else was prepared to speak.

His patronage includes seeker of lost items, shipwrecks, sailors, amputees, and American Indians.

St. Anthony of Padua, pray for us!

Today is the World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests.

We are grateful for all of our priests in the Diocese of Columbus, the sacrifices they make and the joy they bring to our Catholic community!

May Mary, the Mother of Priests, intercede for all priests so that they may be ever more conformed, in the daily sacrifice of their lives, to the Person of Her Son, Jesus Christ, Victim, and Priest.
Amen.
