For 100 years, Catholics around the world have come together on World Mission Sunday to pray for missionaries and support the young and growing Churches they serve.

This year, Pope Leo XIV is inviting us to carry that legacy forward.

In a new video for the 100th anniversary of World Mission Sunday, the Holy Father reflects on his own connection to this extraordinary day—from celebrating during his youth in the United States to experiencing the prayers and generosity of Catholics around the world during his missionary ministry in Peru.

And what a difference a century has made.

We invite you to join us for World Mission Sunday Mass this coming Sunday at 5:15pm at Community of St. Joseph Cathedral & Holy Cross Church.

"May faith be the torch which illuminates, animates, and sustains you." -St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690)

Born in to a large Catholic family in France, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque developed a devotion to the Blessed Sacrament at an young age. While seriously ill, Margaret prayed for healing through the intercession of the Blessed Mother and made a promise that if she was healed, she would take religious vows. She was cured instantly. Eight years later, Margaret entered the Order of the Visitation at Paray-le-Monial. Margaret is most well known for having visions of Jesus who asked her to spread devotion to His Sacred Heart. She is the patroness of devotees to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, polio patients, and the loss of parents.

Bishop Earl K. Fernandes celebrated the first ever Mental Health Mass as the kickoff to the unveiling of the new mental health ministry in our diocese!

Deacon Dave Bezusko, Senior Director of the Vicariate for Catholic Social Doctrine, shared the plans for mental health ministry, and multiple testimonies were given from attendees about the benefits of various ministries.

"It is love alone that gives worth to all things." - St. Teresa of Avila

Born in Avila, Spain, St. Teresa of Avila is one of the most famous mystics of the Catholic Church. Teresa entered the Carmelite Convent when she was 20 years old. After only a few years of religious life, she became very ill. It was during this time that she was inspired in prayer and began experiencing visions and spiritual ecstasy. Teresa founded seventeen convents including the first reformed Carmel and eventually received authorization to form a separate province which was the starting point of the Discalced Carmelites. She was named the first female Doctor of the Church in 1970 by Pope Paul VI. She is well known for her spiritual writings which include The Interior Castle and The Way of Perfection.

She is the patroness of Spain, lacemakers, Catholic writers and those in need of grace.

Over the weekend, Bishop Earl K. Fernandes celebrated Mass for the Brazilian community in our diocese for the Feast for Our Lady of Aparecida, the Patroness of Brazil, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Star of the New Evangelization. Fr. Antonio Carvalho, pastor of the Brazilian community, assisted.

Many brought up flowers as an offering to Our Lady, and a couple young fishermen took up their boat, reenacting the historical account of fishermen finding the clay statue of Our Lady of Aparecida, who provided an abundance of fish after asking for her intercession.
