Accessible Disciples Training Is Here!

This is an exciting day for Ohio FWB!

After more than ten years of development and three years of video production and publishing, Accessible Disciples—our special needs ministry training for the local church—is officially launched!

What makes Accessible Disciples so unique is the impact it can have far beyond one individual. When you reach a child with special needs, you have the opportunity to reach their family, volunteers, schools, and even the surrounding community. It opens an incredible door for ministry and outreach through the local church.

Our goal is simple: we want at least two people from every Ohio FWB church to sign up for the training. Having multiple people participate will help your church understand and implement each module and begin building a ministry that can effectively serve individuals and families with special needs.

I truly believe this is one of the greatest ministry opportunities before our churches today.

And trust me—it is not a matter of “if” your church will connect with a family affected by special needs. It is a matter of “when.”

These families are already in our communities. Many are simply looking for a church where they and their children will be welcomed, loved, served, and given a place to belong.

We have an opportunity to be that church.

The Lord has placed us in our communities to minister to people in need, and I cannot wait to hear how He uses Accessible Disciples through our Ohio FWB churches!

Imagine being told, “You can’t come to church.”

Or…

“Please don’t come back.”

Or simply…

“We don’t have a place for you here.”

For families in the special needs community, these words—and the feeling behind them—are a reality far too often.

And some of those families are living right in your community.

More than 7 million students in America receive special education services—about 15% of public-school students.

Behind every statistic is a person. And behind that person is often a family looking for a place to belong.

A church where they can worship together.
A church where their child is welcomed and included.
A church where they can grow spiritually.
A church where they can serve, not simply be served.

And here’s what we sometimes miss:

When you make room for one student with special needs, you may open the door to an entire family!

You may also open the door to teachers, therapists, caregivers, advocates, and others in the special needs community who are looking for meaningful opportunities to use their gifts and serve.

But an accessible ministry doesn’t begin with a room or a program.

It begins with equipping workers for ministry.

That’s why we created Accessible Disciples Training for the Local Church.

Pastor/church leaders, if you invest in training your people to create a ministry where individuals with special needs can belong, grow, serve, and become disciples of Jesus—you will have families who can finally say:

“We found a church where our whole family belongs.”
