It's a blessing to see that one of the most beautiful art installations I've ever seen will have a home after the closing of the Rubin Museum of Art this month. Long live the Tibetan Shrine Room! Link to a gifted New York Times article is below ...

The am in “I am” floats on an endless sea
dark and mysterious
undulating freely
after dropping all my “I am these particular things” at the shore
like you’d shed a jacket and sunglasses and hat and towel
on hot sands bordering a cool sea

When the waves crest
I can see the sky
in multi hues of blue and white
stretching for forever

And when I am in the trough of the wave
my world contracts
and I see nothing but water
I know nothing but water and the pull of currents beneath me
carrying me to a far distant shore I do not know

It is peaceful here without my list of things that I am
and must do about them

I just relax and enjoy the water and sky
which meets somewhere in the distance
hazy in the in between
in the space between one and the other

Perhaps that is where I am headed
in the space between the one and the other
the human and the divine
the “I am this” and “I simply am”

That would be nice
As I have no idea how to go about being human
all my ideas slipping and sliding into a mess on the floor
or perhaps on my towel at the beach
and I can’t yet fully embrace the divine

I love this place in between
the walls of water threatening to overwhelm me
and the glorious sky beckoning majestically to me

It is a good place to be
there is no need no harm no lack
just silence
peace
and the undulating sea

Charlie “Bird” Parker, the great jazz alto sax player and philosopher, once said, “don’t be afraid, just play the music.” This is so timely and profound. Worry, doubt, and suspicion hold us back from playing the music. Just play the music. Get on with life regardless of the hurdles. Hurdles make life interesting, and are best for inner growth and practice. No hurdles make life boring. We become complacent. Good days, just play the music. Bad days, just play the music. Music is the flow of life. It harmonizes; it keeps us open and creative. Fear and worry interrupt the musical natural flow. Come home to the present. Stay in the flow. Face fear and doubt with courage never stop playing the music. Emaho!
